I am not privy to his immigration status and details, but if he was originally admitted to the United States legally on anything other than a "visitor visa" then he could have easily and legally obtained a driver's license.

if he was admitted to the United States legally on a non-tourist visa, chances are that he could be legally issued with a social security number. Typically, the numbers issued are marked as "not eligible from employment" (a fact that's prominently figured on the card itself) and are used for tax and identification purposes. A typical example is the social security numbers that are granted to students from overseas who come to study in Universities.
I mean... I just don't get this. I don't hold Barack Obama responsible for everyone in his family, but there's a lot of weird shit going down here.
Maybe, maybe not. Even if he is not legally allowed in the U.S. today, the SSN and DL could have been legally obtained in the past. And even if he was never here legally, then I still don't see anything all that weird, to be honest. Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants all over the country have social security numbers and driver's licenses. Some are stolen. Others are "legitimate" but obtained with fraudulent means.
As far as I can tell, the INS is set on deporting him. We will see how the case plays out in Courts - these things can take a while. But, I really don't see anything that can be pinned on Obama about this case. Even if he had any sort of communications with this guy in the past, I very much doubt they included discussions of immigration status, and it doesn't look like he intervened at all to help him.
