You can't possibly truly like Rick Ross??!! He stole a dude's name. And he was a corrections officer who now tries to play hard. Worse yet, he can't fucking rap.
Kanye? He's a bitch. Terrible voice for rapping (some of the best are MC Ren and Rakim--for voice), doesn't flow well, uses the same word to rhyme with itself (breaking one of the original sacred rules--because it is NOT a rhyme), and doesn't tell a story well.
To me, growing up the way I did, rap was a look into a life I did not know, about a struggle I did not have. Like watching Good Times, What's Happening? or That's My Mama. Now, it is homogenous, like a commodity.
Ross is carving up a niche with his "Maybach Music" (even though he pronouces the word wrong)
thing is, Dr. dre used to be with World Class Wrecking Crew and wore lipstick and shit...now, he's a powerhouse not to be fucked with.
I understand Ross's background, and 50 did the same...
Ross kinda has that Big Boss thing to him, and has weathered the storm of 50 and others, and they accept him as one and their own.
All these cats are rappers, possibly only DMX is a real stick up kid...
Kanye, for all his antics, and you may not like his voice, is good people's with Jay for a reason. While he might not be everybody's flavor, he's got dudes wanting prenups...he's too emotional, as many dudes are who are raised by their mothers or women.
And I think you are seeing him mature as an artist, but showing his creative side, kinda like Guru did with his Jazzmatazz albums.
