no surprise there.. bean is a hardcore petrolhead and is used to driving manuals.. cruise was impressive because first, he's not used to right hand drive and second, he's not so used to driving manual.. plus i think bean used to race amateur so there's another advantage..

another petrolhead, jay kay, has i think, been the fastest celeb twice in a row

7 gears might be a hassle. Get big enough engine and you won't need that many.
