Luke Wood - Tribute to the Aussie Pro (Positive)
« on: August 31, 2011, 07:03:56 PM »
Luke sure impressed a lot of people with his great physique and pleasant personality. I met Luke in Melbourne in 2009 and he told me he was going to compete again. Later that year he announced he had retired from competition. To hear that he had died is a shock because I have two sons older than Luke. I think it is fitting to honour Luke by posting positive things about him including the many amazing photos of big Luke.

lets keep this post positive and in good spirits, like Vince suggested. If you want to post negative stuff then do it in another thread.

Luke will always be remembered as the smiling aussie no matter what was going on around him. He tought me to think of thirty plus reps on the leg press as normal and he taught me that it is ok to hug.

Cheers Luke Love you mate RIP.

I talked to Luke and he was a nice bloke. Always had a nice smile and easy to relate with. He didn't mind posing for photos. Here he is in March 2009.

When we saw photos of Luke before he competed a couple of years ago we all thought he was going to do well. Some guys look great a couple of weeks out then not so good on stage. Dennis James was like this, too. I have little idea what the pros do to get lean for contests but it must take its toll on them. Luke lost too much size at competitions and looked much more impressive 'bulked up'.

how comes vince still has any link with bodybuilding / lifting weights when he looks like he didnt lift a weight in the last 50 years?

Is it because he like staring at muscular men more than lifting weights ?

vince what are your thoughts on training at your age. is it important? can it be substituted for sex with grannies with large asses or nice whorish faces to bang?

I am still a bodybuilder because when I train I try to stimulate hypertrophy. The motivation isn't there like it was 40 years ago. I will be 69 in September. Luke followed his dream. Many top Aussie bodybuilders went overseas to find glory and perhaps some money but most returned home empty handed. John Terilli, Adrian Batho, Terry Mitsos, and Luke Wood. Lee Priest is perhaps the most successful of the Aussie champions. Sonny Schmidt was from Samoa but did live here in Australia.

i gotta admit, I interacted with him a lot via PM and on getbig... Brings tears to read his old posts and know the guy is gone now.  Prayers for his family.  Sad.  So sad.

Yes Roger Walker was a huge guy. He placed 6th in the 80 Olympia in Sydney. I met Roger a couple of years ago and he no longer had the big size.

Luke had great legs and upper body. He could have used bigger arms. I never got a chance to train with Luke but he had an invitation to use my gym.
