I though it was a fun film. Fairly bold in it's way too, trying to make a kid-appropriate action film which had a few irl issues like a single parent family, adolescent alienation, real world death, and which wouldn't be too Disney for adults. I suspect a lot of Arnold fans felt like he was insulting them though. They went looking for a shoot-em-up, which was how it was advertised, and wound up at a sermon about the absurdity of action movies. Backlash. Woody Allen suffered the same from Stardust Memories, making fun of fans for liking what had been previously presented.
