Police last night arrested a 59-year-old grandmother they said attacked people on the Northwestside with a long wooden pole.
Ethel Baker, Indianapolis, was preliminarily charged with two counts of felony battery, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan police.
Police said Baker chased her 16-year-old granddaughter with a wooden pole, swinging at her for "disrespecting her," according to the report.
The granddaughter had turned up the volume on her computer while Baker watched television in their home in the 3200 block of Ashway Drive at about 8 p.m.
The granddaughter said Baker hit her on the head with a remote control, then chased her outside with the pole.
When the granddaughter fled, the family dog followed. The dog ran into the street and was hit by a 1994 black Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Gustavo Navarro, 19, Indianapolis.
Navarro stopped the car and got out to apologize to Baker for hitting the dog. But Baker chased him with the pole, striking him on the back before he could get back in his truck.
Neighbors grabbed Baker to keep her away from Navarro.
Police said when they arrested Baker she was still belligerent and promising to discipline her granddaughter later.
