I understand why they enacted this (before Florida became a no-fault divorce state), but it's a dumb law.  And any law enforcement officer who arrested someone over this should be ashamed of himself.

think about this... for law enforement to be logging this many arrests per year they must actively be looking for it.  I mean this is the kind of thing that how the hell would you know unless you were investigating for it?  That's some sick shit right there.

true, that's part of this same law.  Just stupid it effects people that are not commiting adulty.  All states should have common law marriage rights imo.  Last I looked it was down to like 9 states left that do.

There are quite a few state laws hanging around from 40,50, even 80 years ago that have never been taken off the books which seem quite retarded.  Good to see this guy actually doing something about it and attempting to get rid of retarded shit like this.

But that's not really in the same ball park of wrong as Florida's stupid cohabitation laws...  The Chico City law above is just a pointless lol...

  Maybe they were just trying to discourage young people from having kids out of wedlock so tax-payers don't become surrogate parents. In that case, they should just deny welfare benefits to people who do that.

I think the law goes back to like 1874 so the motivation of it might not include welfare and all that..  Probably more religious based.
