I ride the NYC subway all the time and now the in thing with the black kids seems to be the Dr. Dre Beats Headphones that go for $299.00.  All the kids now are wearing these things and rapping their bullshit to themselves.

Most of these kids probably don't have 2 nickles to rub together but somehow manage to pay $299 for headphones.

Seems like he suckering these kids into paying an outrageous amount for headphones.

LOL... my little brother bought these shits maybe 2 years ago... i remember seeing his sad face on the couch i was like whats wrong little buddy?  He was like nothing   :(  .  I asked him are those the new Dr Dre headphones. HE was like yea cost me (MOMs) $300 i asked let me take a listen to what $300 headphones sound like. Gave it about 2min worth of listening , took them off, when over to my gym bag grabbed my $10 gym headphones by sony and said take a listen to these bad boys.... he started crying..... he ended up returning them back to bestbuy the same day.... sound like shit off an ipod or other listening divices... these shits are made im guessing for DJ mixers in a lab , not for street use i'm assuming

Not kidding - I almost feel bad for these kids how stupid they are wasting $299 on these things.

And all cause DRE is the front guy on this bullshit.

Not even for that.  I've had friends buy those things and I'd give them my pair of 12.00 Coby Studio Headphones and they can't tell the difference...Even my Wireless Studio Headphones for 20 bucks sounded the same.

Can't hate on Dre for pocketing some money but its just another example of kids wanting to emulate their heroes although Dr Dre is almost 50 years old.  He's not even in my generation.  I bet if kids knew who the real Dre was, they would think twice before emulating him

Never sat there.  Have sat in may other areas though.    Best thing about the new stadium is that the bathrooms are clean and its very open.

They don't pay for them, and you shouldn't be surprised, America's poor black population is intensely confomist

5,000 posts on Obama being a Socialist, and, now, you're against (supply & demand) capitalism!? If this guy asks that sum for headphones and idiots pay it, it's 'worth' the asking price. Cripes, you're a confused mess.

This happened a few days ago in Los Angeles

Officials Say Confrontation Over Headphones Led To 2 USC Students Getting Shot At Party

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Officials say that a fight over headphones is what led to two USC students being shot at a party being held near the campus.  Stephanie Abrams reports.

Labor day weekend is considered the last opportunity for USC students to party before midterms, but tonight the partying is over and students are on edge after two students were shot.

Police say the shooting happened early this morning at a party in a student-filled off campus apartment complex on the 1200 block of West 37th Street. They say the three suspects in the shootings were not invited guests and were not students. The suspects are still at-large.

Police explained that a student at the party noticed his Dr. Dre headphones were missing. He spotted a suspect with the headphones and confronted him.

Police say when the student’s friends stepped in to help, the suspect pulled out a small caliber handgun shooting both. Police say one bullet hit a female graduate student’s hand and then struck a USC junior in the chest. “The round she took to the finger slowed down the impact of the bullet entering the male victim’s chest and most likely saved his life,” said Captain Melissa Zak.

Both students underwent surgery and are in stable condition at California Hospital.

Police are adding security to the area until they locate the suspects. Officials say they have very good leads and good descriptions on all three. Police are confident they will make arrests in the near future.

Authorities are also advising students hosting parties this Labor Day weekend to be more watchful about their guest lists and to keep the door locked so random people can’t walk in — which is exactly, they say, what happened at the party Saturday night.

Take it thou.... USC campus area is not safe... full of ghetto motha fuckas

i like how the negros go for the largest, blackest, gaudiest looking headphones.  look at the ipod headphones (for whitey).  small and white and can barely fill out an ear hole, just the way we've always had it.

i'm sure i mentioned this before, but an actual engineer at a major audio company (no, not dr. dre at "beatz") told me that the headphones plugged into an iphone make no difference.  he said the audio quality's so low in the output of the ipod that no regular magnetic headphone can do ANYTHING to improve it.  he said it's nothing but a pure waste of money.  sound is created by the output device, not by the audio device.  with that said, he talked about the new noise cancelling headphones that were supposed to be all the rage at the time.

the sound of mp3 players is basic 16 bits stereo sound... no headphones are going to make it some high quality 320khz 24bits sound. But people are ignorant. Just like people buying protein powders who think it ll transform them into anorld s.

I have yet to see a white kid in NYC wearing these things and they are clearly marketed to minorities.

I think it's just spread out of urban areas lately, back when I went to a city high school 15 years ago, probably 95% of the black kids would use giant head phones like this for street wear. Always struck me as a big pain in the ass, having to carry them around, when you could just wad up a pair of ear buds.
