Oh no....he's done. theyve been playing cat and mouse with this for a while so other Qbs they try to bring in won't have too much leverage if they think he's coming back in a week or two

I am from Indy and the word from the so-called insiders here say he is going to need another surgery and will keep him out the whole season. One of the top ortho surgeons Rick Sasso (he actually performed on of my back operations) says Manning choose to have the surgery earlier this year to be performed by going through the back of the neck. Some people do not get results from this procedure. Sasso said that by going in from the front of the neck it is almost 100% successful. He basically said that Manning made a mistake by choosing the method of surgery. He also added that the only solution to fix this is the surgery from the front. I forget what he said was the exact differences between the two surgeries, the segment was on after 11 last night. I look for our Colts to win maybe 6 games this year if we are lucky. Sucks because we are hosting the Super Bowl this year.

It's not a knee or shoulder injury...you really cant work around a neck injury. He literally has done everything you can do in the NFL. I don't see him risking possible long term side effects.

If he has this 2nd surgery he will be out at least all the regular season. The Colts will not win enough games with Kerry Collins at quarterback to make the playoffs. So it will not matter how bad he wants to come back.

The Curtis Painter era has begun!! Also, move over NFC West, there's a new worst division in football.

Curtis Painter is the absolute worst player (I can't even call him a quarterback) that has ever graced a football field. He is King Turd of the gridiron. I have never heard a player get boo'd off the field during so many pre-season meaningless games.

It was just on the local news here in Indy. Colt's organization already discussing discounting game tickets if Manning does not play this season. Not looking too good.

I hate that I was right about this one. Especially with the Super Bowl being in Indy this year.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts quarterback Peyton Manning underwent another surgery on his neck Thursday, the team has confirmed.

In a statement, the team said the star quarterback underwent surgery to have a single-level anterior fusion.

"The surgery was uneventful," the team's statement read. "This procedure is performed regularly throughout the country on persons from all walks of life, including professional football players."

ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen broke the story Thursday afternoon, quoting sources who said Manning underwent a one-level cervical neck fusion after consulting with a half-dozen doctors.

"Manning actually just got out of surgery. No plans for injured reserve as doctors monitor fusion result, per sources," Mortensen tweeted Thursday afternoon.

The surgery has a minimum recovery time of two to three months.

"Rehabilitation from such surgery is typically an involved process," the Colts' statement read. "Therefore, there will be no estimation of a return date at this time. We will keep Peyton on the active roster until we have a clearer picture of his recovery process."

Indianapolis spinal surgeon Dr. Rick Sasso, who has not treated Manning, said, typically, a small incision is made in the front of the neck to relieve pressure from a herniated disc.

"We optimally want to put the disc back to where it belongs to open up the tunnel where the nerve runs out. We put a little bone graph across that -- a titanium plate -- so people can move their neck right away without putting on a collar," he said. "We let them get back to their normal activity right away."

The team confirmed Wednesday that Manning will not play in the NFL season opener at Houston this Sunday, ending his streak of 227 consecutive starts.

Manning has not been able to fully recover from neck surgery in May.

Yes it is. What a shame. He is actually a class act. Also gives a lot back to the community. The thing I like about him is he does his job and then walks off the field. He doen't do a 10 minute celebration after completing an 8 yard pass like some of these NFL drama queens. Hopefully he will recover. Bad area to risk hard hits though.

It's on most of the news outlet sites. His goose is cooked for the rest of the season. He just had another surgery this morning.

Hate to see it happen.  But while he's under the knife, maybe they can reduce his five head.
