franco was maybe not deserving in 81 . but he carried and injury with him . zane never competed in strongman .. frank isdisliked by some because he lacks size .

The ones that say zane was small, overrated, a swimmer, etc

Either were born in the 90s and think yates was "back in the day" and don't realize that even if they weighed a muscular 250lbs at 6 foot in 1979 and stood next to zane, they'd immediately feel inferior. Its something you either get, or you don't

Or, older guys that have wide waists, were fat as kids, and are all about the "gorilla suit".

It comes down to preference, but ask any real bber, or pros past and present, and they'll tell you zane was great
Even todays seo, slin, and gh boosted guys know what its like to bodybuild. But they're in a diff era

what he has is a look that most people can appreciate and isnt a freak show look, its a look that doesnt yell roids etc

the regular non pro guy should aim to look like that or as close to it as possible, the pros have no choice it seems, they must kill their waist line off in order to get to the size needed to possibly win

zanes look on a beach with girls would get him way more female attention (good attention that can lead to something) versus the freak gh gut look (that would get attention im sure from schmoes seeking posing sessions).

He perfectly describe the poor quality of the level after Arnold area and before the arrival of Lee Haney.

His aesthetics get overrated sometimes, but a fair amount of the time back in the day he looked awesome.

There was no concurrence at all in his time. 1 or 2 years before his first tittle I remind you there were Arnold, Ferrigno and Nubret on the same stage.
Arnold destroyed him in 1980 in the worst shape of his life and saddly preparred for the contest. That proves he just had a good carrer because there were no exeptionnal guys during his "reign".
