Blue states - Red states Who pays the most taxes?
« on: October 05, 2011, 06:43:01 AM »
Interesting that the top 5 high tax state are all blue states.
Connecticut
New Jersey
New York
Massachusetts
Maryland

Lowest 5 states are red
Mississippi
South Caro
Tenn
Alabama
Alaska

Now that we know who pays the most $$$ taxes it would be interesting to see which states get the most $$ back in federal funding.

Red States Feed at Federal Trough, Blue States Supply the Feed
Monday, September 27, 2004

The Tax Foundation has released a fascinating report showing which states benefit from federal tax and spending policies, and which states foot the bill.

The report shows that of the 32 states (and the District of Columbia) that are "winners" -- receiving more in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes -- 76% are Red States that voted for George Bush in 2000. Indeed, 17 of the 20 (85%) states receiving the most federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Red States. Here are the Top 10 states that feed at the federal trough (with Red States highlighted in bold):

States Receiving Most in Federal Spending Per Dollar of Federal Taxes Paid:

1. D.C. ($6.17)
2. North Dakota ($2.03)
3. New Mexico ($1.89)
4. Mississippi ($1.84)
5. Alaska ($1.82)
6. West Virginia ($1.74)
7. Montana ($1.64)
8. Alabama ($1.61)
9. South Dakota ($1.59)
10. Arkansas ($1.53)

In contrast, of the 16 states that are "losers" -- receiving less in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes -- 69% are Blue States that voted for Al Gore in 2000. Indeed, 11 of the 14 (79%) of the states receiving the least federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Blue States. Here are the Top 10 states that supply feed for the federal trough (with Blue States highlighted in bold):

States Receiving Least in Federal Spending Per Dollar of Federal Taxes Paid:

1. New Jersey ($0.62)
2. Connecticut ($0.64)
3. New Hampshire ($0.68)
4. Nevada ($0.73)
5. Illinois ($0.77)
6. Minnesota ($0.77)
7. Colorado ($0.79)
8. Massachusetts ($0.79)
9. California ($0.81)
10. New York ($0.81)
Two states -- Florida and Oregon (coincidentally, the two closest states in the 2000 Presidential election) -- received $1.00 in federal spending for each $1.00 in federal taxes paid.

So why has no Repub on here posted yet?  I am sure there is a reason to explain this.

Red state bozos constantly whine and cry about taxes, but they are paying the least while getting the biggest handout.  Ironic hypocrisy at work here.

Very simple - most of those taxes are paid by wall street and financial industry people who live in NY, NJ, and CT.  Same with Mass.

Don't be fooled by Alabama, it has a ridiculous 9.25% state sales tax.  Probably to pay for all the welfare recipients in Montgomery.

Maybe the red states should get into the financial industry too and pay their share instead of just being content with having the highest rate of obesity, teen pregnancy, poverty, drug use, etc...

Not disagreeing at all.

But Bloomberg always points out here in NYC that 40,000 taxpayers finance literally 50% of the NYC budget.  Those are Wall Street people by and large and if they left, same as in bostons' financial district - these states would be FUBAR

Naw bro, they have all their gold dollars and silver dimes in offshore accounts where it draws enough interest each month to make their Ferrari and yacht payments.

Five states dominated by Democrats who have taxed and spent themselves into oblivion+ Wall Street foots the bill for NY and CT

What is so hard to comprehend about that and why is that somehow a badge of honor?

PS- When you have the highest tax rates in the country its natural that there is going to be more tax revenue-- as there is more money to accumulate.

This is another thread where left wing know nothings pat each other on the back for being so smart, without objectively analyzing the information that they posted.

I thought the point was that the people in the Red states are the ones spending all of the money, while the blue states were bringing in revenue to give them.

Obviously it is.  Although the right wing "know nothings" only addressed one half of the topic.

Why not explain why red states are spending more $$$ than they are paying into the system?  The red states can't support themselves?  No wonder.

As someone who lives in CT (and in Fairfield County), I can safely say that this county pulls the entire weight for our bankrupt state as well. And who populates this county? That's right, rich Wall St. guys, hedge fund guys, doctors, lawyers and other very affluent people. Lower Fairfield County is arguably one of the three to five richest parts of the country.  ::)

Guess they are giving back.

But let's act shocked that Mississippi, a state with no agricultural prowess, no financial prowess and the highest number of uneducated minorities in the country, receives the most in benefits.
