Good on them for trying to celebrate who they are while they're alive. They, and we, will all be dead soon. Might as well try to enjoy the ride, whether you're fat or fit. That said, the ride's a lot more fun when you're in shape, but whatever...
Although, I seriously doubt they're actually happy when they do this. It's almost like a protest, than a celebration. Like they're trying to justify and say "it's ok, we can do what we want just like the thin girls". Does anyone really think these big girls will happily (and I mean genuinely happy inside) strut their stuff in a bikini on a beach? Doubt it.
So really, what is this accomplishing? If nothing else, perhaps it serves the usual purpose...to hang a lantern on a spectacle for the average person to gawk at and point fingers and wag tongues. Or to fetishize the big woman. All at the expense of these women.
I'm not saying they don't deserve love and a life. But this doesn't seem right to me. Not because I don't like big women (there are some very hot big girls, right BMC?), but because it's not setting an example in the right way.
The message is right; the medium is flawed. You want to empower big girls to live life fully? Find a better way than stripping them down and parading them like peacocks. I mean, I love it. But that's the test in me talking.
As the father of a daughter and being married to a woman, and having been birthed by a woman, I appreciate women. I don't think this helps women overcome society's marginalizing view of them at all. Be it discrimination for being fat, or the overt sexualization of women.
Oh well, rant over.
