Sad. Indy and especially f1 are probably the most dangerous sports in the world. I remember back in the 90s before a lot of he current safety implementations were put into place that we have today, there were quite a few deaths that would occur, the most famous was the senna/ratzenberger deaths from just one race weekend.

There really weren't that many deaths. There were serious accidents, but they really didn't result in deaths. Indeed, during the 90's the only two deaths are those you mentioned: Ratzenberger and Senna, who both died over the course of one weekend at Imola.

I don't know if it's correct but I read that Senna is the last person up to this point to die in F1 crash. F1 was dangerous, if it ever even was really that.

sorry should have been more clear, i meant in the history up until the 90's after sennas death there were a lot of fatalities when you take into consideration theres only of handful of racers in the organization. theres been 45 deaths directly from racing, but they finally made it safer after sennas impact.

Just got the news. Unbelievable.

I know Indycar is on its last legs, but this wasn't supposed to happen.  Dan was a young *racing* star.  This is going to hurt the racing community for some time, and haunt his family forever.  :'(

It's the chance you take when entering that type of career. Hard to feel sorry for someone who dies under those type of circumstances just to make money. It's actually selfish to have a family if that is the type of career you choose.

Anyway, they would have divorced in less than 5 years judging by his lifestyle and youth.

That can be applied to lot of regular careers , driving trucks for a living is more of a risk than driving race cars.
