I used to drink a lot to deal with adverse situations, now I face reality and just keep trying to put one foot in front of the other and remain strong mentally.
Good for you Wes.  I think most people become dependent on drugs and alcohol when they are in the early stages of coming out.  Bravo.  Stay strong.

is this why you compete so much, or used to- to keep yourself mentally preoccupied? takes a strong mofo mentally to compete at your pace.

You used to be a beta and now you're alpha. Hope it didn't take you 30 years of being a beta to step up. Weak minded people need substances to deal with reality, beta's.

Thanks for the props guys!!

I drank and drugged off and on for 33 years...............in between binges I used to train, now I just train.

To no one, competing and training in general helps to keep me on track...........I`m one of those guys who has to have goals in and out of the gym.

One great thing that I`ll say about competing, especially at my age (56 years old),it gives you a chance to bust out of permabulk mode and really get into great shape win lose or draw.

It`s nice to walk around as an old fuck who looks better than most people half his age,and wake up without a hangover!  ;D

WES, I come from an Irish family who drank excessively and would be passed out by noon only to arise by 5 for the Martini Happy Hour.

But I myself never had a problem with alcohol .... but I have seriously tried to be a copy of my parents.

But for some unknown reason I just don't enjoy the taste of alcohol, the lost moments of long periods of time, or the hangover after-effects.

I tried but I failed at being an alcoholic on numerous occasions.

Some friends have told me that alcoholism skips generations . Is there any truth to that?
