I hate LA Fitness
« on: October 21, 2011, 02:09:30 PM »
So I just found out that my gym is closing down due to a loss of business to the opening of a gigantic LA Fitness down the street!! My gym is one of the very last hardcore gyms in my county and the only hardcore gym within reasonable driving distance. The LA Fitness is a gym for pussies...no dumbells over 100lbs, no squat cages, no deadlifting allowed, no steel plates or dumbells and jam packed with dipshits. Does anyone else here feel my pain?

I rather run ,do pull-ups and dips at the beach than working out at LA Fitness Gym! ;)

LA Fitness vs Snap or Anytime for $45 and neither has a hack squat

I'm cool with LAF

everybody wonna be a bber but no one can lift the heavy ass weight.

99% of getbiggers never go to the end of the rack.  i know i don't.  played ball and didn't fuck with 100 lb bells.

Can you even lift up a 100lb dumbbell as the saying goes shut up and train.

Was a member in LA fitness for over a year and left this past April because I moved. They were good!  None of the things you mentioned applied at the one I was at!  Lots of serious bodybuilders, and fitness chicks and it was all fine!

I go to a chain gym eas they have no squat rack they're missing a couple of other key pieces. It's only ten minutes from my house though you can make do.

Do you get recognized when you go out places a lot?

Do pros get to train for free?

Do you hang out with or train with any pros from other sports?

GH-15 you are exactly right. There are so few real gyms around and that has to do with how incredibly lazy the average american is. The way I see it a place like LA Fitness is for the average person who doesn't really want to train hard or put in much effort into getting in shape.  To the jackass who asked if I can lift a 100lb dumbell the answer is yes..easily. Big Ach...years ago I trained at an LA Fitness in preparation for a few shows as it was the only gym around and while I am able to get in a good workout there it really is not the type of environment for people who are serious about training.

The advent of these fitness clubs and the death of real gyms in America is a sign of the times. So few people want to actually work hard at anything and consequently achieve very little. For the record...yes I am venting.

i worked out at a HARDCORE gold's gym.  in one yr i saw one guy use bells over 100lbs, so he represented 1% of the membership.  that being said, 1% of getbiggers use 100lb bells.  hence, you go the fuck out of business probably if you cater to the 1%. oh, the gold's and your gym both went out of business.

oh, at my height of lifting i was 5'10" 238 if i remember correctly, don't need that type of weight now.

bitch on!

g-thang, I can appreciate that no business can survive if they cater to the 1%. The membership of my gym is mostly normal people but they all take training seriously. The gym population is a combination of housewives, MMA fighters, powerlifters, bodybuilders, business execs etc. What sucks is that there really are so few people who really enjoy and realize the value of training hard. The simple truth is that America is getting lazzier and good gyms are dying because of this. The fitness clubs are smart as they market to the fat and lazy masses. The same arguement can be made for restraunts and food. My neighborhood has hundreds of unhealthy dining options but only a few places to get a healthy and nutritious meal and this is mostly because the average American is a fat ass and prefers to eat crap.

LA fitness is horrible. I went to one for some time and left. The dumbbells were scattered everywhere and the place was a fucking mess. The place was packed to the poiint where you couldn't even get on a machine. The place was over 100,000 square feet and it was still packed. i hate LA fitness. >:( >:(

Any of these new gyms are ok, only thing about some of the newer gyms is they have more machines then free weights to cater to the female which in turn makes the free weight room more crowded then a gay bar in west hollywood

NOT that i ever been to west hollywood bars

$7.95 monthly fee at Living Fit, small gym, but has all I need. 24/7, 19.00 start up fee, and discontinue at anytime...no salespeople, nobody works for the gym. Swipe a card to get in and out.

I got a free pass @ LA Fitness for 10 days, when people ask me how I liked it I say "If Walmart ever made a gym it would be LA Fitness".
Everything is cheap there and I do not mean the fees, the free weigth area is tiny, the rest of the place is row upon row of crappy machines, the water fountains "compete" with each other so the flow of water trickles out if more than one is being used at a time".
The place is good for teens/fatty fats and those who do random workouts as few times a  month.
