I'm asking because we hired a new Pakie dude named Ahmed in our office.  It is making me laugh my ass off how when they introduced him and kept refering to him as AWKMAD.  I've had numerous arab friends so I know how to pronounce it, but I am wondering if this guy is getting pissed off hearing his name butchered over an over, especially by his manager.

In the arabic language there are two letters for "H" - one is very sharp (which is actually what is used in the name - Ahmed), and one is a bit softer and similar to how the English pronounce "H"....

The Sharp "H" though does not exist in the English language, as a result... people with the name "Ahmed" are called either:  "Amed / Amad"  or "Achmed / Akmed"


I chose to go with "Achmed" (pronounced "Akmed" )  - since I hated the other variation!
