Some 15% of U.S. Uses Food Stamps

(WSJ) — Nearly 15% of the U.S. population relied on food stamps in August, as the number of recipients hit 45.8 million.

Food stamp rolls have risen 8.1% in the past year, the Department of Agriculture reported, though the pace of growth has slowed from the depths of the recession.

The number of recipients in the food stamp program, formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), may continue to rise in coming months as families continue to struggle with high unemployment and September’s data will likely include disaster assistance tied to the destruction and flooding caused by Hurricane Irene.

Many of those on the EBT roll receive rather small allotments in the region of around 40 bucks a month....not all recipients or even the majority have broods of children with multiple fathers.....on top of all of that, I wonder what the percentage is of those that are receiving it but do not really need it and are just scamming the government?

What a God awful excuse. The number of people increased by 8.1% in the last year alone. No one gives a fuck about your opinion that $40 isn't enough to worry about.
