paterno doesn't even coach anymore, they don't want to fire him because he has been an icon, despite being more "weekened at bernies" over the last 10 years

hopefully now they will have the balls to finally can him

E

How can they keep him? I have a few buddies who went to Penn State and have wives from Penn state and love Penn State, but this falls under Joe Paterno's fault too. That asshole was suppose to be the next head coach at Penn State.  >:( >:( Dirty fucker should be killed.  >:(

It is sad that this very well may be, and frankly should be the end of Joe Pa's coaching career. At the same token, you don't have to get very far into the report to know for certain that he, and everyone else who had been reported to, or had seen something, should have reported it to the police.

This is definitely a black mark on Penn State, and they certainly could have handled it in a very different manner when they should have, in which case there would have been a momentary sensation, but on longer term appreciation for intergrity.

This column pretty much speaks for me on the horrendous revelations coming out of my alma mater, Penn State. (I have a masters in lit there) If you have missed this, the bottom line is that one of Joe Paterno's top coaches is charged with serial rape of young boys, including one incident in the Penn State locker room (allegedly a favorite place for him to anally abuse his victims.) After the eyewitness account, Penn State's reaction was to allow the already retired coach to keep his honored emeritis position, but banned him from bringing his prey to Penn State. This arrangement was fine with Joe Paterno and even approved by Penn State's president Graham Spanier. Though the law requires reporting child abuse to the police, this was not done. And Penn State gave no public indication that this guy, with a foundation involving young kids, was anything but a pillar of propriety. The coach was free to continue his abuse elsewhere--and, according to the attorney general, he did. Oh, and two high Penn State officials are being charged with lying to a grand jury about all this.

I have met Graham Spanier and previously felt he was an impressive leader at a great school. So I'm dumbfounded that his reaction to this is to express support for the officials charge with lying. This is only the beginning of the repercussions, and I think that plenty of alums are like me -- demanding answers, accountability, and tough action. If the board of trustees doesn't act, it should be the governor.

One bizarre note to all this: the coach in question, Jerry Sandusky, published an autobiography a few years back, telling how great he was, especially in helping kids! It was called "Touched." A telling note is that besides the normal edition, there was a leather-bound edition, obviously for those who fetish-ize Penn State football. That's the nub of this--worship of a big-time sports skews the values of great universities. But rarely do things get this far out of whack.

Did they wait until Paterno broke the Div I win record to break the story? The report says Sandusky knew about the charges for three years?

Sandusky is the main freak. He knew about the crimes for decades, because he was the one fucking the little boys.

The coverage the story is getting the more it appears that Joe Paterno KNEW about everything and did nothing.

How does it fall on Paterno? From what I've read, he reported the one incident he knew of as soon as he became aware of it. Even the grand jury report abstained him of any involvement.

I'm surprised, to say the least. This is definitely something you'd expect from a place like Michigan, not an upstanding university like Penn State.

Sandusky did what pedophiles do. They target at risk kids who have an unstable home environment, no close parental support or supervision, and a deflated self esteem. They go willingly and they don't tattle. Sandusky did it using the lure of Penn St football, gifts, and his own "charity". There is nothing worse.

Curley and Schultz are darn near as guilty and their cover up resulted in other young lives being changed forever. Paterno is testifying against Sandusky and isn't being held liable but for me, he failed to do a very basic thing and that is to protect children when made aware of an incident by an eye witness. I honestly hope he has lost sleep over what he didn't do and the results of it.

This story puts all the other payola, cheating, booster, agent stories into perspective. Those are bad and need to be handled properly but crimes against an innocent are far, far worse and Penn St will have a mark on their reputation, perhaps permanently as people really begin to understand what happened. I am not and will not take shots at school when it comes to a dirty fucker like this. You might hate Michigan and that is fine with me, but this is sick son of a bitch.

It's already starting and next should be Joe Pa.

I actually think the state will have a hard time convicting them on the perjury charge.   It's basically their word against McQueary's as to what he said at the meeting.  :-\ :-\

I think the lack of response to the McQueary accusation, regardless of whether he told them what he told Paterno (that it was sexual, but was not specific) or what he told the grand jury, is a firable offense.  The full response was to ban Sandusky from bringing children on campus, which they admit was unenforceable.  So they did nothing.  That's according to their own grand jury testimony.

"Joe Pa" should have been gracefully shown the exit door several years ago...and it has nothing to do with this scandal. The man is a legend, but he is a 120 years old, for Christ's sake!  ::)

if they had a pretty good idea their administration was covering it up - they should have gone to police.

If you see a co-worker has 10 dead hookers in his trunk, you don't tell your boss then forget about it.  You call 5.0

Sandusky wrote a book called, "Touched"  :-\ :-\

2002 wasn't the first time this had come up with Sandusky. In fact there were some accusations before 1998. The '98 incident actually sparked and investigation and there is a police report. From the outside it looks like they let Sandusky retire with a "farewell tour" year in 1999 with knowledge of that incident/accusation.

And what about JoPa? Are we to believe that he didn't know of any of the previous accusations or the investigation about his DC?

Paterno will not survive and Penn State will clean house.  If he wasn't JoPa, he may have gotten hit with a perjury charge as well.

I think in most of our countries no one gives a shit about American football and therefore could have never been left out of team...

I've tried it once though (well, a kind of variation i think). In military. Ended up as a big fight after one guy ran full speed towards fatso, hahah that was great  ;D ;D
Never played it again.
