Gallup Poll: Conservatives 42%, Liberals 21%
cns ^ | November 7, 2011 | Terence P. Jeffrey

(CNSNews.com) - Self-professed conservatives now outnumber self-professed liberals in the United States, 42 percent to 21 percent, according to a Gallup poll published Monday. Another 37 percent described themselves as moderates.

The percentages are based on Gallup's daily tracking polls conducted from June 1 to Aug. 31 of this year.

The polls show a slight increase in the percentage of conservatives from the last time Gallup reported these numbers. On Aug. 1, Gallup said that in its polling during the first half of 2011, 41 percent of respondents described themselves as conservatives, 21 percent described themselves as liberals, and 36 percent described themselves as moderates.

Over the past two decades, according to Gallup, the percentage of Americans describing themselves as conservative has gradually increased, rising from 36 percent who said they were conservative in 1992.

The percentage who described themselves as liberal rose from 17 percent in 1992 to a high of 22 percent in 2007 and 2008. Since then, the percentage saying they were liberal has held steady at 21 percent.

Interesting.  The disparity is a little higher than I thought, but overall reflects what I believe:  the majority of the country is right of center.

I find these polls completely ridiculous.

They hold no value... When you say "conservative" or "liberal" you are just trying to group people in some way that makes you feel more comfortable.

Even with this poll, you have More than 50% of the country listing themselves as liberal or independent.

Many people consider themselves conservative when it comes to money let's say... but when it comes to social things, they consider themselves liberal, or do not even think about it.

These polls are insane.

Yes, the repubs saw some wins.  But so did the dems.  it's a mixed bag - which means it's not a tea party blowout.

KY & WV wins
anti union in OH
Antio abortion in Miss
AZ - border bill author defeated.

now all they have to do is pass legislation furthering their radical right wing agenda and then watch as 60% + of the voters turn out to repeal it

yeah, NOBODY is claiming there is monster tea party momentum anymore after yesterday's "wash".

not good momentum for the right, but to be fair, they don't have any good alternaitve/answers.

I mean, "Obama sucks and Cain is being framed?  Or Obama hates you and Mitt is 10% different"?

Not bloody inviting  :(

Personally - I think all public sector worker unions need to be disbanded as per the thoughts of FDR.

There is no sane reason to allow public sector workers to unionize.
