Tattoos and being a Bodybuilder, should you have them?
« on: November 13, 2011, 03:45:24 PM »
If you are a Pro-Bodybuilder should you get/have a tattoo?  Should they have points taken off/disqualified if they have them?  It just seems like these bodybuilders that "showcase" their muscles and get these outrageous tatttoo's really aren't taking their "occupation" quite seriously. Examples off the top of my head: Lee Priest and Derrick "DA" Anthony and of course almost pro Billy Gunns.
What say you?

If you're really serious about being a pro I wouldn't have big retarded looking tattoos like the dwarf liar priest. Small ones that don't cover up the muscles seem to be okay.

I have never seen a tattoo that improved the way anyone looked.

Agreed.  I think Lee has some other "problems" he's trying to cover up or compensate for...mind you I thought Lee's physique was pretty damn good.

Bodybuilding is a hobby--not an "occupation."

I would always choose a female sans tatoos if all else equaled. Sometimes I just think "thats too bad". To me it's like a fly on the lens so to speak.

I beg to differ.  These pro's like your top seven Mr. Olympia are working at Costco and California Pizza, etc. etc.? Nope!  Everything they do revolves around bodybuilding and showing off their muscles to make money in order to support themselves.  Even when it bleeds into selling drugs and their bodies it still is connected to bodybuilding. It is an activity that demands payment so therefore is their job.

exactly, everyone has them nowadays so the rebel thing to do is not to have them. And 95% of tattoos suck bad so the odds are heavily agaisnt you if you try to get one.

It appears that tats are more acceptable today than they were 20+ years earlier. Back in the 70's/80's tats were considered taboo for competitive bodybuilding, but today they are simply overlooked and many times downright acceptable.

Many years ago, getting a tattoo was a way for a person to stand out from the crowd.  Nowadays, people use them as a way to fit in.

If you are competitive you should not have them.  If I were a judge, I'd count it against them. NPC or PRO.
