Stefani's outfits come across as a parody or extreme version of a previous fashion. The historical allusion affords them an appealing coherence and sets her in contrast to ladies of the era recalled. She always manages modern yet classical, and tasteful while tasty.
Gaga seems to be endeavouring to incorporate industrial elements (which is perhaps fitting given the factory produced nature of her music) alongside the drapings of a caricatured urban sex worker, now somewhat the worse for wear. Being able to mix elements from one outfit with those of another at random is super suburban handy for a housewife on a budget, but for a supposed paragon of fashion it appears as if a blind man is simply selecting items at random from closets one and two, and then expecting us to call her daring rather than disastrous.
