I don't make very much, only about 1800 US per month, but the cost of living is a lot lower.

I have a BA and a TEFL cert that I got online.

Really you just need the BA, if you want to teach legally (valid work visa).

Even if you don't have that, you can get paid under the table, but there is always risk in that.

I have a Chinese girlfriend, but I met her after I arrived.

I came here on a scholarship in 2007 (same city), taught kindergarten in 2008 and returned this year. Been trying to learn Chinese and it's more fun to do it here. Plus, I just get bored and need to change my life every so often.

What kind of level do you teach (middle school, adults or ?) and what do you think about Shenzhen city?

I am curious as I might go to china to teach myself. I have a BA in english.

Is America (any city) so dull and lack variation/diversity? :D

I just don't understand the appeal (unless you love the certain country's women)

Right now I teach adults, but I've taught kindergarten before. Adults are much easier. Shenzhen is a great city, but it is very new. Thirty years ago this was just a fishing village. The government has invested heavily here. It is a Special Economic Zone. There are many very wealthy Chinese people here. Hong Kong is literally right next door.

You can get a job easily with a BA.

Yeah I'd say so. Drive a few miles in any direction in the US, once you have seen a few streets with strip malls featuring Mcdonalds, Walgreens, Dunkin donuts and some other random companies housed in generic beige buildings with large generic red signage, you'll have a pretty good idea of what the rest of America is like.

How long does it take to get a work visa, and once you have a work visa is it easy to transfer to other companies or other types of work?
I presume the ESL company who you work for sponsored your visa??

Also whats the food shopping like there, I've read that china has a lot of problems with counterfeit food and contamination.

As for myself, I am very curious about China. Having been there for 18 days in 2007 on vacation, I got quite fascinated with the country and
their vastly different culture from ours.
