Regarding what is needed to win the election, we don't just need an attack dog.  I think you've advocated that for Ron Paul.  That's not nearly enough.  It didn't help Bachmann, and she spends the majority her time attacking Obama.  On the other hand, so has Newt and he has risen dramatically, so his approach does tend to prove your point.  But he brought a lot of substance to the table during the debates.  I'd say that's the primary reason (his debate performances) that he has skyrocketed in the polls.   

But I think what is needed is anyone but Obama who can raise a lot of money, run a good campaign, and kick Obama's butt in debates.  Looks like that will be Romney or Newt at this point.
