Very nice guy.  Except that he promised me his English VHS tape would work in my VCR.

It never did.

Most VCRs you get in Europe were multi region, and very few people were buying single-system. So you can't blame him for not knowing that many Americans did chose not to do so.

I guess not.  But he promised it was formatted to work in any VCR, including American.
