STARSHIP TROOPERS Remake In Works; THOR Screenwriters To Pen The Script
With Total Recall remake getting a good attention from the public, producer Neal Moritz is now interested on rebooting another classic, the 1997 sci-fi film Starship Troopers.
 
 
According to Vulture Sony Pictures producer Neal Moritz is interested in a reboot for the 1997 Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi film Starship Troopers, based on the Robert A. Heinlein novel. Moritz is also the producer for the upcoming Total Recall reboot. The movie is getting so much attention from the public that the producer may hope to start remakes of other hit movies soon.

The screenwriters Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz are on board to write the script. They're both responsible for writing Kenneth Branagh's Thor and Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class. And let's not forget that they also worked on several episodes of Fringe.


The time is the future. Johnny Rico joins the military after graduation to become a citizen and for the love of his high school sweetheart. In the war against the bug aliens of Klendathu, the military is a very dangerous place to be. Johnny works his way through several battles and with the help of his friends and comrades, helps turn the tide of the war, and save the human race.


The cast of the original included Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Muldoon and Michael Ironside.

like starship troopers a lot. seems soon to remake it though. i suppose the theme of the film is more relavant these days though

If done right...and given the current political, "police state" society, it could work very well.

Unfortunately the last few years have given us some truly abysmal remakes (Nightmare on Elm Street )

STARSHIP TROOPERS Reboot To Be Less Violent According To Producer Toby Jaffe


"The more expensive a film is, the harder it is now to make it that violent," explains Jaffe, also one of the team behind the Colin Farrell's Total Recall. "With Recall in particular, we made a conscious choice to keep it tonally closer to something like Minority Report. It gives the studio, and us as producers, the opportunity to reintroduce it in a new way."



"Verhoeven made his movie a critique of fascism," says Jaffe, "whereas Heinlein was writing from the perspective of someone who had served in World War II. Y'know, one man's fascism is another man's patriotism..."



"Working in a visual-efects renaissance as we are, we have the ability to do so much more now. We can do the Jump Suits [armoured exoskeletons from Heinlein's novel], for example, which I don't think they could have done before."

I love the movie, but the book is much better and different and the way life should be.
