That is no excuse.  I think everyone knows and expects that ALL politicians are going to lie and cheat.  The best ones are the ones you never read about or get caught doing it.

So he tried to sell a seat...who gives a shit.  We got a drug cartel running sitting in the White House and Cops beating the shit out of people at will, killing their dogs, putting guns to childrens heads. 

I guess since it wasn't a lobbyist it was illegal.  ::)
