These things crash. We have these smaller ones that cost about $250K a piece. They're small and don't have a very large range. One nose dived after going outside its operations range on my last tour...actually several did this. They're supposed to loiter or return to where they took off from automatically if they loose connection. I got stuck with the investigation or part of it. The bottom line was, they're a machine and shit happens. My report took 3 weeks and a few man hours to basically say that. Could the Iranians shoot this thing down, sure...but I bet it crashed and they got lucky.
