I do 275x5 regularly. Could get 12-15 but I rarely go beyond 5.
I ramp the weight up, though. Warm up with 135, go up to 175 then 220 and ending with 265 for 4-5 if I have it in me.Hmm.

At this point I'm more interested in maintaining size and gaining power and strength than adding size. I'm almost 50, I have enough size.

warm up with 6 with 135, 5 with 185, 2 with 220 and then go all out with 250, see how many you get.
I thought close grips were when your hands were close together. Thanks for the clarification.
close grips have more to do with the elbows than hands, if your elbows are tightly tucked to your sides thats a close grip bench.
