Documentary On The Punic Wars.
« on: December 15, 2011, 01:12:26 PM »
Very interesting documentary on the great Carthaginian general, Hannibal Barca, and his war on Rome. A single man who single-hendedly almost finished the World's greatest superpower.

"In a matter of hours, Hannibal had all but obliterated Rome and everything that it represented..."

I found it a bit heavy-handed.

Hannibal was a great general, consider how much he achieved with just an army of mostly mercenaries.

In the end however he lost.

I think they are making a hollywood movie about him.

Actually, he won. After Cannae, Rome was liquidated. He could have taken the city and destroyed it. It was his hesitation that allowed the Romans to rebuild and then for Scipio to defeat him at Zama.

I have watched this particular documentary plenty of times, very very good. At the end he fell victim to what most great General's fall victim to.....being conservative.

What are you on about? Roman Empire destroyed Carthage and it was only after 400AD that it declined, several centuries after Hannibal.
