he always looks great outside of competitions but once he gets on stage he looked like shit. example: this photo, his post-2001 physique

he looked amazing at certain times while also looking like shit at other times. i don't really get it since you can't blame all of it merely on stage lighting

2001 to 2004-5 freak,,decent waist still,,and insane legs and conditioning.still had decent back with wrinkles then but still monster,,

Is a legit as far as I know. Taken 48 hours before he competed. Sometimes these guys look almost perfect 48 hours before. Full, swole, tight etc, and then the final prep actually screws it for them. Big Dennis James is another example of a gut this almost always happened to.

Others, like Levrone, knew how to time it perfect.

It's because the physiques of bodybuilders who don't work on lines and aesthetics only look good when everything falls into place.

An aesthetic physique, however, with good lines and whose muscles don't overpower its lines will always look good, even if the conditioning is off.

There were a few pics like that taken around that time period - as I said, awesome in his prime!

Kamali actually had one almost as good as that, but he only stayed prime for around 6 months in his career and turned to shit pretty quickly after his peak.

dj15's pre-contest photos are still the best. He's always going to be the Tank Top/Parking Lots/Gym Mr. Olympia.

Jay does look fucking nutty though. Too bad he never looks like that on stage.
