with my thoughts. I almost feel i was born to live and not to die.. i guess in another 20 years ill know if im truly aging or not as a vegetarian

i think the body requires all food but meat and a cleansing through water and physical activity in order to renew the cells , tissue, and organs properly.

I think the body is very much mechanical, and mechanical robot could last forever if taken care of

Once you have a brush with death you'll likely feel the opposite.  You'll know you are going to die and it could happen any second.  Hope that doesn't ever happen though.

On a serious note. Support life extension initiatives. I can ASSURE you (by the direction trends are turning, that majority of general people aren't aware of.. just like they weren't aware of a computer revolution... And I know trends, I'm deeply interested in this topic.) that in a relatively near future society will laugh at the idea of dieinf of OLD AGE, as we laugh at dieing from getting a cut in a finger/infection, like many people ued to die in the past.
It doesn't mean they won't die (car accidents, these infections.. still happen, some other bad luck..) BUT - the set "time limit" won't be there.
The question is "They" or "Us"? Don't overestimate technological progress, but don't underestimate it either (and try not to judge it on a present pace, it's fast, but it's getting faster exponentially). The lifespan (and youth) of many diff. species was extended by a very serious amounts in the lab. Whole organs are being "rejuvenated" in mice for ex. (skin, or liver.. they CAN make these YOUNG again. NOW, not in sci-fi books, not in dreams, but that stuff happens NOW..).  I'm not sure how many ppl understand the magnitude of what's comming..and too bad if they'll remain ignorant..

If any of you have the mental capacities to educate yourself in a medical science (the most cutting edge one) on this subject - be sure to do it. You'll find it fascinating. But be warned - you'll start to be aware of how RIDICULOUS is to die of an old age, or to age at allm and even more - how ridiculous it is that most people still feel helpless about it to a point they doesn't even try to do anything..

Life extension will NOT get off in the near future.
Insurance companies will almost certainly not pay for LE treatments.
And populists will argue that it is immoral to do LE while people are starving in Africa and Asia... etc, etc.

They will poison the public against LE very quickly... unless something really radical comes across. Something that takes an old Hollywood actress and de-ages her completely into her 20s and leaves everyone aghast.

People will pay their most valued possesions for even the very first treatments (stem cell pools RE-supply probably be amongst the starter package, or something along the lines..), no need for insurance. This market is of a huge magnitude, nothing would compare.
Populists may argue whatever they want. These fools will stand in the line on the front to get some of that medicine. It's ABnormal for a life form to argue against living. They'll be weeded out like an evolutionary rubbish, by a natural selection..
You can't poison public against it if the proof of concept will be shown, just like you can't posin them against sex. It's deeply wired in the very meaning of life - to Live.
First proof of concept of a full regeneration most probably will be demonstrated on mice (it is already.. like that of skin or a liver.. it's very very impressive, tho' obviously - not enough). That should be enough to get the stuff going full throttle..

What's funny is that if you'd say "We are searching for cure of cancer", everyone amongst these emotional morons will go "Ahh.. that's good, let's raise money.". Now if you say "We are searching a cure for an old age." they suddenly change thei opinion and go "Wait..wat? That's WRONG, why would anyone want to live..??" (the very basis of an "argument" such apes present is laughable lol..). But these are just reflections of a society based on reactions, which are of an emotional nature (thus - lack any critical thinking). They are insignificant, really, in the big picture.

Yeah listen... not to piss on your parade and all. But you are so optimistic and a bit naive to boot, if you forgive me for saying so.
You remind me of H.G Wells and the Fabian society of the early 20th century claiming that scientific understanding will conquer everything and there will be no more pain, disease, poverty, starvation.

Or Bertrand Russel, claiming that education will forever eradicate ignorance and that technology will make everybody work only a three or four hours a day.

They all left something very important out of the equation. Either that or they tragically underestimated it.

Human nature.

Lol... To be serious - it's vice versa. The more informed the society will be, the betters are the odds of making some impact..

Try SENS, The Manhattan project.. Plenty of other initiative interconnected with these hubs one or other way..

My optimism is basically a determination. When you are determined, you must be optimistic (to a sane degree, of course) and believe in a success (else - there's no point for a determination at all..).

The dissease actually are at all times lowest, and absolute majority of seriuous disseases are a consequence of one and only one factor - aging (it's fascinating actually.. In one experiment, where mice were engineered to age fast because of such a little stuff on DNA strands, called - telomeres, they all started showing classical disseases/detorriation associated with old age - diabetes, heart dissease, sight loss, hear loss, brain issues, etc, etc.. and when the teomerase was RE-activated in these mice, literally - ALL these disseases "winded back" to a non-existant state. That says a lot.. It's very predictable, very interconnected, and fighting each dissease as a separate "unit" will be shown futile, as the cause is really on a cellular level, the loss of a genetic phenotype we call "youth" aka - perfect, or almost perfect health)..

And talking about "everybody", that's - utopia. I mean - we can easily manage infection or common cold, BUT - plenty of people still die from these in third world countries.. Just because there's a "MB slr" on sale, it doesn't mean that everyone will be able to buy it. It's the same "survives the fittest" principle. Plastic surgery can make quite some wonderful stuff these days, but far from everyone enjoys the fruits of it, even tho' many would like to be able to afford.

By the way - mind I tell you that there are species that doesn't age? Simple as that - they die of everything, but not old age, they doesn't have any "time limit", that's ticking. They may be eaten by a predator, cut by a glass or poisoned by humans, but they does not detorriate like we..

If you can link me to the telomeres study, I'd be grateful.
I know the species you mention, but they are the simplest of organisms, non-sentient and non-sapient.

You mentioned SENS... I like De Grey, in fact I like him very much but I'm afraid people see the long beard and the unkempt appearance and in conjunction with the unorthodox views on aging they end up taking him for a total crank.

A layman version: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1333925/Elixir-eternal-youth-Scientists-reverse-ageing-process-landmark-trial.html (tho' I could dig the actual study, couldn't find an open access one on a blink)

And the species I'm talking about are not just the simplest ones. For ex. aligators does not show any known signs of aging, a certain specie of whales, a few species of fish, a jelly fish exists which can revert itself back to the young state and develop again, rinse repeat ir for whatever amount of times. A naked mole rat doesn't show signs of aging too, tho' die suddenly of a strange reason (almost like programmed /phenoptosis/).

Well De Grey may look like a weirdo, but he's quite productive on spreading the info and getting people moving.

ANother brilliant scientist, a leading evolutionary biologist, who's working on aging, M.R.Rose. Take a look at an interview with him: http://55theses.org/2011/09/07/michael-roses-new-scientist-article-aging-can-stop/
Generally - you'd do yourself quite some good if you'd go through info presente in that site: 55theses.org .
