The article is from the Weekly Standard but from an author from the New Republic. I'm sure you RP bots will attack the messenger but old RP has some skeletons and if you had issues with Barry and his associations...then you should equally have issues with this. This stuff has been around for awhile and a reason among many that RP is dismissed. I'm also sure a reason why the libs will back or push him for the nomination

In a March 2009 interview, Paul entertained Jones’s claim that NORTHCOM, the U.S. military’s combatant command for North America, is “taking over” the country. “The average member of Congress probably isn’t a participant in the grand conspiracy,” Paul reassured the fevered host, essentially acknowledging that such a conspiracy exists. “We need to take out the CIA.” On Paul’s latest appearance on the Jones show, just last week, he called allegations that Iran had attempted to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States a “propaganda stunt” of the Obama administration. In a January 2010 speech, Paul announced, “There’s been a coup, have you heard? It’s the CIA coup” against the American government. “They’re in businesses, in drug businesses,” the congressman added.

Likewise, Paul’s insistence that America should be a “friend” of Israel is belied by public statements like one from a November 22 GOP debate: “Why do we have this automatic commitment that we’re going to send our kids and send our money endlessly to Israel?” This is an echo of Pat Buchanan’s 1990 claim that if the United States went to war against Saddam Hussein it would be on behalf of Israel, and that “kids with names like McAllister, Murphy, Gonzales, and Leroy Brown” would be the ones doing the fighting and dying. The assertion that American soldiers are risking their lives to protect Israel and not the United States is as false today as it was two decades ago.

Last, Paul continues to be the favorite candidate of those who believe that the United States either orchestrated the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, or allowed them to happen in order to create the pretext for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It’s not hard to understand why. In a December 9 speech to supporters in Iowa, Paul had this to say: “Just think of what happened after 9/11. Immediately before there was any assessment there was glee in the administration because now we can invade Iraq.”

Paul’s more mainstream supporters have always explained away his popularity with 9/11 “Truthers” as an unfortunate consequence of his altruistic, if at times naïve, libertarian ethos: The man just loves freedom so much that he’s loath to turn away backers who may think differently from him. To anyone who bothers to look into Ron Paul’s record, that claim is simply not credible

ROn Paul supports letting israel bomb the hell out of iran, eliminating them as a threat. What's wrong with that?

and the official 911 commission report has been called a whitewash - by the guys who wrote it. I dont know why you're defending that lemon of a story - even the poeple who wrote it don't defend it. And RP isn't a truther, they support him because he admits there are some legit Qs about the attaacks that were neer answered.

The guy goes on CT radio shows...I have an issue with tha. I have an issue with a guy that says what he says about blacks and jews and how he really feels about America. Oddly RP decided this time around to promote his service in the military, like we're suddenly going to forget that he wants to slash it by half....something he can't do but he can do alot of damage regardless on that front. Everything this guy wants to do has to go through Congress. They won't play ball with him on alot of it. I don't see the GOP allowing him to get the nomination. He's done better playing the game this time around but they still think he's nuts. I also have a huge problme with libs who side with him. Kinda like republicans who voted for Obama.

Yes, he goes on CT radio shows because the listenerd are very politically interested, many have good money, and they vote - Ron Paul could win the nomination because "the crazies" come out to support him.

Also, what is your huge prob with libs that support him? Isn't that a GOOD thing? You can rest assured - a TON of obama voters are going to disappear and vote ron paul.

and yes, congress is going to tie his hands, and he won't get everything done that he wants - but he will cut spending, and the repub congress will back him a lot of it domestically.

hh6, i know you dislike ron paul because he entertains crazy theories - but some of them aren't so crazy. Gulf of tonken was a "middle mgmt error", we learned 40 years later - they never attacked us. 911 - sorry bro, but a lot of things happened besides 19 jackasses with blades - to let that day happen. It sucks, ,but it's true. Ron Paul doesn't take the "ahem, that's nonsense, everyone knows that" line that both repubs and dems are trained to take.

There are legit qs about 911 - the deaths of 3000 people - that nobody wants ot look at. Valid Qs - and that's what the 911 commissioners tell us. It's a scary world, it's a weird thing when the 'alternative media' wants to ask Qs that the corporate media will not. Ron paul's rise is VERY MUCH a reflection of the fact that 1/4 of americans are conspiracy theorists... that 1/4 of americans believe the corporate media is full of shit, etc.

If you want to defeat ron paul, tell the other jackasses in the race to start being honest. RP is the result of tehse assholes lying to us so long that we're willing to risk voting on a quesiton mark because everyone else is more repulsive.

The fact that his newsletter called out liberal jews and blacks is a plus to me.

I'm not saying RP has all the answers, and I dont konw if his foreign policy ideas even work.

But I do know that he appears to be the most honest one in the race. He seems genuine and the rest of them seem like slimy phonies..

It's about gaining publicity. And some of his supporters are conspiracy theorists - who cares? What matters are the policies and ideas that Ron Paul espouses.

And regarding "racist" allegations - are you really going to make those about a man who has pictures of two Jews (Ludwig von Mises and Murray Rothbard) framed and on the wall in his office? Are you really going to make those allegations about the ONLY candidate who has expressed that people should be treated as individuals, not groups or collectives like blacks, gays, straights, whites, men, women, etc.? Are you really going to launch those claims against someone who wants to eventually bring about free and open immigration?

Regarding the racist newsletters - I do think they're troubling. But when you look at them in the context of Ron Paul's political career, associates such as Murray Rothbard, and long-stated political beliefs they stick out like a sore thumb. Someone who has consistently advocated for individual rights and allowing more non-white immigrants into the country is not a racist.

If anything, the media ought to be making noise about Ron Paul's association with anarchists like Lew Rockwell and Murray Rothbard. But doing so would distract from the "he's a racist" message, considering that those anarchists he's associated with were strict individualists.

Didn't ron paul used to provide free medical care to poor african americans? And while working in congress for 10 terms, he served the interests of poor & minorities pretty damn well?

And this was a newsletter that he has been saying for 20 years that he didn't write.

What are your alternatives?
Mitt - who knows where he stands on anything.
Newt - Created the mess we have for 30 years, and now wants to fix it?
Everyone else has no ground game or money to win anything.

Here's a thought...

Obama stands a decent chance against newt (women hate him) and Mitt (far-right repubs hate him). Obama can start a war or other things, or just plain cheat, to keep his job.

Ron Paul is fine with women. He's fine with far-right, hell, he is the original tea party canddiate, 20 years ago before it was popular. And most important of all - - Ron paul will SUCK AWAY some of that built-in, anti-war, pro-drug, whatever chunk of that 45% that Obama gets automatically.

Ron Paul will pull some of those votes. I know a few libs who voted obama who love ron paul. Do you?

Going on the Alex Jones show does not help one bit. That kind of stuff kills his credibility. He gave 911 Troofers the stiff arm in 2008. He should have done so more forcefully this time around, instead of essentially embracing those nuts by going on that kook's show.

Any politician trying to be elected president who gives that guy any legitimacy whatsoever is killing his chances of winning. The only reason it hasn't come up in the debates is Ron Paul has as much chance as winning as Huntsman.
