I have my wife and son here, why would i waste 3000 Euros and precious vacation days to fly home to see the annual family fight and the retardation that has come over Europe??

I have been back to Germany already this year, and I have sworn to myself not to go there again for many years to come, I rather spend my money on a trip to Hawaii, Thailand, Vietnam, NZ, OZ, California, Korea, China, Singapore or whatever than go back and hang around at my parents house for a week listening to their bullshit.

That's what god has invented SKYPE for, you get to hear their bullshit for free, and when you have enough, you pull the plug.

I do, actually my christmas is much better in Japan with only my family around.

I am not even christian, but for German culture's sake we celebrate it at home, and it's without the shit on TV, the commercial side of it and the family gatherings with all the problems that usually occur.

Same here, I just to hate Christmas before I had a kid.

Always the same shit, you get presents you don't really enjoy, better get some money, EVERYONE in the room thinks the same. Everyone is anxious and tries to behave totally unnaturally to "honor" the festivity...

Kids change this all, they show their joy, they enjoy the family. I will try not to ruin it for my son for many years to come, but in the end i will fail like all generations before me have.  ;D
