Brazil overtakes UK as sixth-largest economy
« on: December 26, 2011, 03:37:59 PM »
Brazil has overtaken the UK as the world's sixth largest economy, according to a London-based research centre.
The shift is part of a larger trend in which emerging economies are out doing some European countries.

The south American country was still considered something of an economic underachiever a decade ago, but as its economy grew steadily in the past eight years, things started to change.

Government's anti-poverty measures further helped in lifting more than 40 million people into a new middle class.

Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo reports from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Brazil may just be the place to move to.  Hey I even would have a chance to get laid there for free.  I don't see the economy here in the U.S. improving but rather it'll continue tanking.  It's the sold off politicians serving the rich and the bankers.

Brazil is a beautiful country.  They've also really helped out South Florida's economy by vacationing here in droves.

Yeah...but the Industrial Revolution happened in England first, in a time when Brazil was nothing more than a huge sugar plantation full of slaves. England's GDP back then was 100 times larger than Brazil's. Now, Brazil's has surpassed it. It is only a matter of time before Brazil catches up in GDP perr capita as well. What matters here is the huge gap that Brazil overcame in the past 200 years.

Means sweet fuck all really, people still have no money for shoes over there, live in huts. Its not how much money you have it is how you use it to create. They need to invest heavily into creating sustainable jobs and technology if they are to survive. The Saudi's are doing a good job of this but given 20 -40 years or so when their reserves are up because they are raping their supplys, you watch how quickly they slip down the ladder. All them fancy holiday destinations will not account for anything when that oil drys up. All the same these emerging oil countries, they will have a few good years until the oil starts to dry up. All the big reserves are in the poles, lets face it they arn't going to get anywhere near them places as there are a few old age countries with big military equipment saying fuck off that's ours. The west has a huge lead on these countries in time, experiance and technology, there are many ideas already in the pipe line to replace oil, it's just at the moment oil is soo cheap and everything is geared up around it. I bet most of these countries like Brazil and Saudi fuck it up with poor investments and all the riches get distrubuted around a few people and fancy buldings.

Lets look at it in a logical sense. Oil & Gas is cheap as hell to drill... The innitial out lay maybe getting higher but when they invest $400,000,000 into a well that has 23,000,000,000 barrells at $100 a barrell.. well you do the maths. This stuff is not running out any time soon there is loads of it. The largest supplies have yet to be found and these are going to be controlled by the countries with big guns, lets face it, when it comes down to it if a country needs it, it will do anything to get it. Can you see the Saudi's winning a fight with EU, UK, USA, Russia or China? Nope not a chance.
So lets imagine a day when the cost of drilling outways the cost to produce something like hydrogen gas, then guess what we will be using that. All you need is water, initial power and a big machine and you got allot of energy that can be used (with upgrades) for fuel in homes, cars, powerplants etc.
Now lets imagine a country such as Brazil finds that much oil under its feet that it can disrupt the distrubution of power from lets say the USA... what will happen? One of two things if not both:

1) Properganda.. Some "Brazilian Extreamist" will attack the USA killing thosands of innoccent civilians or something simular and the USA have no choice but to wipe them off the map with its huge arsnal of weapons and claim its lands as its own to help "rebuild" their country etc etc and take all the oil.

2) They will just pull something out of the hat that is cheaper to produce than it is to drill and now oil becomes something of the past other than for industrial applications.

Brazil should have more money than the UK as there are 3 times as many people who can work etc but yet it has only just over taken in. The only reason these countries have cars, mobile phones, internet etc is because the west introduced it to them to expand. They use our systems and use or technologys to "better" them selves. They will never and I repeat never be in control of anything. They will have more say in the world and have bigger economies but that doesn't mean a thing when the person who is telling you what to do is pointing a loaded gun. They will not head the table when globalisation comes into play
