It must kill this kid to have to live with the fact that Fox CRUSHED CNN and MSNBC in the ratings. In-fact, HLN routinely crushes MSNBC in some of the time slots. Most people just aren't interested in fictionalized, far-left sitcoms like Tingles and Co. bring to the table.

Lmao. Have you watched Fox Programming latley. Its a joke. With their "misplaced" footage and what not. You gotta admit.. they are jokes and should be ashamed to call themselves a "news" network

Same goes to MSNBC. They also disappoint me by trying to "out lean" Fox

I watch portions of Fox all the time.  A joke?  Hardly.  They do a good job.  That's the reason they have been killing the competition for so long.  They're just better.

You actually think they are an objective news network.. with objective assessment of the political landscape?

I didn't say that, but as far as their hard news goes, yes.  Their opinion shows?  Not really, but they at least have liberals on their opinion shows.

Fox news and Jon Stewart are not news shows, they are politically motivated and biased programs. The main difference is, Stewart is funny as hell and doesn't hide the fact it's entertainment. JMHO

Every day.  Watched by a majority of people who get their news from cable TV.   :)

Are those the same people who are less likely to know about current events than those who don't watch any news? Just wondering...

?  People who watch current events are more likely to know about current events.  Watching the news isn't the only way to get current events, if that's what you're asking.  Not sure what you're really asking?

I was (ironically) refering to a number of studies (the latest of which is by Lauren Feldman of American University) that were reported as suggesting that individuals who get their news solely from Fox News are more misinformed than people who don't watch any news on television.

Interestingly enough, none of the studies made any reference to reading comprehension. A future subject perhaps?

Sounds like a pretty dumb study.  Maybe they should do one on composition?

I suspect it's less dumb that you think. Granted, the premise -- and the conclusion -- were badly misreported in the news, but that's par for the course really. I think it, and similar studies, are fairly interesting as a commentary on what passes for "news" and journalism in general today (and I'm not "aiming" just at Fox).

As for composition... with a vocabulary size of around 10,000 and the reading ability hovering at the 8th grade level, it's not looking good for the average American when it comes to reading or writing.

Trying to do a study about anyone who gets their current event news from one station, whether it's Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc., is really stupid IMO. That kind of "study" is not a commentary at all on what passes for news, when they all report the same news.  In terms of major current events, they all report the same stories, for the most part.  (Talking about their hard news shows.)  The opinion shows are much different and have a big disparity in terms of what is discussed, etc.  The only exception is the enormous pass the media gives to Obama.

As for composition, people trying to make veiled digs, when their composition is atrocious, could be the subject of a study, athough it would be a waste of time and money.  And writing at an 8th grade level is actually a good thing.  Writing should be as simple and clear as possible.
