suddenly the islam world view seems prety good...
Islam doesn't leave the wife with nothing either, but would not result in her taking outrageous sums of money unless she earned it herself.
Basically at the time of marriage the husband specifies what he will leave his wife with should they divorce, and she must agree to that being satisfactory for the marraige to happen (i.e. she can't be forced to agree to an amount she feels is unsatisfactory). Therefore, should the husband later earn a huge sum of money during the marriage, she's not entitled to that simply by divorcing him, she's only entitled to what they initially agreed upon.
And anything the wife earns while married is hers to keep should they divorce (she does not have to spend on the household or children during the marriage whereas the husband does as earning for the household is one of his responsibilities).
Pretty good balance for both parties IMO.
