Nutrition Myths
« on: January 08, 2012, 01:36:03 PM »
Hello everyone!
I'm from Brazil and here 99% of people still cling to myths of bodybuilding.

Things like: eat 3 in 3 hours, eating foods with low glycemic index because otherwise fatten; take whey + malto post workout to take advantage of the 'window of opportunity', not eat anything that does not seje natural.

This makes the sport here something paranoid. people out with their friends and taking albumin in the bathroom lol, people being laid off from employment for being caught eating hiding lol lol lol and so on ...

Once I started doing research on English language sites, I read several papers and I could see how many myths exist!

But here as we hear it every day, I still get a little late.

Can you assure me that:
1 - the glycemic index does not matter in nothing in the diet
2 - pre-workout and post workout does not matter. I may even go training and then immediately go to sleep without having eaten anything.
3 - I can train, go home and eating four raw eggs Rocky Balboa style that it's okay?

Thank you all!

Você está errado em tudo, exceto no que diz respeito a ingerir proteína a cada três horas - o que realmente importa é ingerir calorias a cada certo número de horas para impedir que o corpo entre em catabolismo.

You are wrong on all counts except that you don't need to eat protein every three hours to maintain or gain muscle - what matters kis eating any calories every few hours to ward catabolism.

Can you assure me that:
1 - the glycemic index does not matter in nothing in the diet - IT MATTERS. YOU CAN'T EAT SIMPLE SUGARS ALL THE TIME
2 - pre-workout and post workout does not matter. I may even go training and then immediately go to sleep without having eaten anything. - TO ME, PRE-WORKOUT IS MORE IMPORTANT
3 - I can train, go home and eating four raw eggs Rocky Balboa style that it's okay? - EAT MORE WHITES LESS YOLKS

It's very hard to understand this post. I don't know whether you are asking me questions or making statements of facts.

You can't eat raw egg's first of all because of a bacteria called salmonella and segund because there's some enzymes that contains antinutritional factores like avidin.... But you can drink liquid pasteurized egg whites as gh15 says

The only thing that matters at the end of the day is if you hit your macro intake (protein, fat, carb).

Eating 3 hours, 30g protein per meal only, low/high GI food, etc. are all bullshit unless you have some specific diseases. Check out "Alan Aragon", he's a nutrition specialist and proved most BB myths about nutrition were false and he had scientific researches to back up his claims.

Thanks, I think you are one of the few that really the topic here has done deep research. Accept what supplement companies will play in your face is easy, now doubt the things and go and verify its accuracy is not for many!

About raw eggs, this business of salmonella is VERY hard to get, nor do I care .... What I'm about half recioso is the absorption of protein, I've read several articles saying that she is only 50% absorbed, but they've seen others say it is a myth and that 100% is

Salmonella, like most bacteria, are killed in either extreme heat or extreme cold. For anyone who has worked in food prep, you know about the "danger zone" in terms of temperature. That is, any food betwen 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. "Hot" food is anything well over 140; "Cold" food is anything well under 40.

I used to make protein shakes out of eggs and milk or half-and-half, back in college. Fortunately, my roommates mini-fridge kept freezing my eggs solid. So, I wasn't worried about salmonella poisoning.
