Beards tend to look shittiest when the hairs are very different lengths. The problem for most guys is that the hair between the sideburns and goatee is not as "mature" as the rest of the face often taking longer to grow and being lighter in color. I've found the best way to deal with this is to rock a perpetual 5 o'clock shadow for a couple weeks. What I do is I use a beard trimmeron its lowest setting and shave with it for a week, maybe two. Then I take it up to the next lowest setting and do the same thing. At this point its a good idea to shape it by clean shaving from your jawline or Adam's Apple down (depending on leaness and face shape). Also clean shave any stray hairs above it to avoid the wolfman look. For guys with thick beards (the hair folicles are close together) and guys with very short haircuts, this is a good beard length to stay at. For guys with more patchy beards, goto the next setting on the trimmer. If you have spaces and gaps still, shape your beard to eliminate them. A narrow, but symmetrical beard will look better than a bigger, but patchy beard anyday. Hair dye will also make a beard look fuller and neater, but only go slightly darker than the hair on your head. If all of this doesn't work, just wait....you'll hit puberty someday. LOL
