Wrong on that one.
As NJFlex stated, Strydom won several IFBB pro shows, prior to the WBF. Christian won the Pro World Championships (the forerunner to the Arnold Classic) and placed 4th at the 1990 Olympia. He felt he got robbed there, and figuring he'd never win the Olympia, no matter how in-shape he was, he jumped ship.
Mike Quinn had multiple top-10 Olympia placings, as did Berry DeMey. Pearson won several IFBB pro shows (both singles and mixed pairs).
Johnnie Morant, David Dearth and Danny Padilla were in the top 5 at the 1990 NOC. Padilla, after a 9-year layoff, made that showing (along with a close 2nd at the Gold's Classic to another WBFer, Eddie Robinson).
"Major Guns" won his first show and placed top-10 at the 1990 Olympia.
The WBF guys were hardly has-been and certainly would have been among the top guys in the IFBB. Again, had the IFBB tested their guys the way the WBF did, Lex Luger may have ended up at Mr. Olympia.
Strydom was the top wbf guy, he couldn't say no, made a killing
Mike quinn was good, but done
Jim quinn was good, huge, a matarazzo of his day, not so good in shows
Pearsons days in single comps were done
Danny couldve tried to stay on, I wish he had
Robinson, baker,wouldve done well, IMO
Don't forget, the guys could see the direction things were taking too, guys like yates, and in 92 levrone, etc coming through the anateur ranks already
Not saying they were useless, but the lure of a guaranteed paycheck beat the potentialof maybe finishing top 3 at a tier 2 show
