 Bourbon is whiskey made from corn, its best not to drink a lot of it unless you like to fight cops.

I've just started liking red wine myself. My brother has been a wine snob for years and kind of got me started on it. First, you need to experiment with the different kinds, Cabs, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chianti etc to see what you prefer. From there you can do some google searches to see how particular wines rate.

I've kind of grown to like the Pinot Noir and Merlot after starting with Cabs and Chianti. The fun part is trying different labels looking for the ones you prefer. Estancia is one of my favorite labels for under $12 and my go to when I don't fill like risking the chance on a bad bottle. Peoples taste vary so much it's probably better if you do some experimenting till you find the ones you like.

Been to a wine tasting in Napa Valley lately and can recommend Zinfandel from that area. Also some awesome Merlot coming from Cali or South America.

Now, why would you assume that I'm a wine drinker?  ;D  

As you sample various wines, remember that all alcohol—including wine—is an acquired taste.  You can learn to like or even love a wine that you might not like initially.  As your taste matures be willing to revisit wines you previously did not like or sample new ones—especially with different foods (meat, cheese, etc.).  You might be surprised what you learn to like and are even willing to pay a premium for!

btw, the hard and fast rules may have changed (you really can have any wine you want with any food) but certain foods DO go better with certain wines.  There is nothing like a premium stake with a glass of your favorite red wine.  :P

Anyway, one of my favorites...

I almost agree with this.

When I was in Maui a couple months ago we threw a party for some of our scuba diving buddies and had a blind taste test.  One bottle was $500.  Another was $300.  The rest were average priced $20-$60 per bottle.  My wine snob friend insisted we (and especially he) would able to taste the difference.  I told him he was fooling himself!

We marked each bottle and then wrapped each in a brown paper bag and on the spur of the moment created a grade sheet and marked it as we all tasted from each bottle and nibbled on snacks.  The result: we all liked bottle number 6.  Turns out it was a $60 bottle.  The $500 bottle came in third place and the $300 came in 5th place.

The lesson: trust your tongue—not the price!  Don't get me wrong: a good bottle of wine can be VERY expensive.  But your tongue should determine whether or not it's a good bottle--not the price nor the winery that it comes from.

estancia is great buy at 12.00 cab is near perfect for the price,,,bogle cab as well 10.00,,,i have drank some of the midpriced superstars of cabernet 06-09 jordans,,04,05,silver oak run from 75 and 110.00 are what there worth,,i recommend a cabernet bottle 'faust'50.00 great red  and stags leap artemus is nice cab as well...

We had some friends over on News Years Day and drank 2 of these, Australia's best wine, by far.
I think we had a 1985 and a 1993. The 1985 was possibly the nicest wine I have ever tasted.
