Author Topic: Any Electricians on GETBIG???? (Read 5967 times)

I have a switch that runs an outlet (we will call it switch A).....I am trying to add a new light fixture and have a new switch (Call it switch B) run off this power source. Can I do this by jumping wires from Switch A? I assumed I could get the power from switch A but it is not working. I am thinking I may have to run the wire from the new light to the outlet first, and then to switch B?

Hot, neutral, ground. If you are unsure of what that means back away from the wires slowly.

I was looking for a site that would have the info I was looking for but can't seem to find one that explains the scenario I have. If I ask the question on one of those forums I might get the answer in a month from now...I was hoping to get this shit resolved today. $:-\$

true and they probably would try to charge you. maybe go to home depot and ask an expert and he or she can walk you through it.

If you ran it to the A switch it would have to be on for the B switch to work, you need to run the new light fixture to the B switch and from the B switch splice into the wires that give the A switch power, not the A switch itself otherwise the B switch wont work unless the A switch is on.

Yeah that's what have tried...a bunch of different ways...but it isn't working. I even tried wiring it so that switch A should turn on both the new light and the receptacle outlet, but what happens is when I turn the switch on, the receptacle gets power, and when I turn the switch off, the new light turns on lol.

That switch is a double throw switch,...they are used at the top and bottom of stairs usually so you can turn the light on or off from the top or the bottom of stairs.

Indeed it is...the wiring for most motor vehicles only deal with DC voltages and not signal streams...corrosion is what you mostly have to worry about...

Let me amend that statement, since it is electronic fuel injection...the signal streams are low enough in frequency that few problems of lead dress are present...usually the gauges get their display information from DC voltage levels and so therefore corrosion is what you have to control.

You probably should have opted for the battery powered butt plug instead. Could have saved you the hassle.
