What To Expect At The Magic Kingdom On Thursday
President's Remarks Not Open To Park Guests, Disney Says
POSTED: 7:00 pm EST January 17, 2012

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney World is getting the word out to its more than 64,000 cast members about changes on Thursday in light of President Barack Obama's visit to Magic Kingdom Park for an economic address.

In a document distributed to cast members that was obtained by WESH 2 News, Disney outlines what the presidential visit will mean to park operations that day.

Disney advises that Main Street, U.S.A., including shops like the Emporium, will be closed to guests from park opening through late afternoon.

When park guests arrive, they will be directed through "alternate routes" to enjoy other areas of the park, Disney said. Main Street, U.S.A. will open later in the day, in time for the "Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade" at 3:30 p.m.

Disney's hotel guests will be informed about the changes beginning Wednesday, the document said. Letters will be sent to each guest room and Disney's in-room television information system will be updated.

Disney advises that all WDW Transportation will operate as normal, however possible traffic congestion and delays are anticipated. Guests are advised to allow extra time for travel, especially those with reservations for places like Crystal Palace, Cinderella's Royal Table and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Botique.

Package pickup will operate as normal. Baby Care and First Aid will be moved to the entrance of Space Mountain.

The president's remarks are not open to guests, Disney said in the memo. Invitations are being handled by the White House. Park guests will not be able to attend without a White House invitation.

In addition, Disney PhotoPass photographers that are normally stationed on Main Street, U.S.A. will be moved to locations around Cinderella Castle. The area in front of the castle will not open until later in the day.

If cast members are asked if the visit means Disney will be endorsing Obama in the upcoming election, the company said it was asked by the White House to host an official presidential visit and was happy to oblige.

"We look forward to learning more about his proposal to help boost tourism and travel and are excited about the opportunities this could provide," the memo said.

Cast members should also check their schedules. While Disney said nobody will lose hours, it is likely that shift times may be changed.

Disney has also adjusted some park hours on Thursday and added a fireworks show at Disney's Hollywood Studios. For up-to-date park operations information, visit Disney's calendar.

President Obama Heads to Disney World to Talk Tourism Jobs (WOW! Obama's big jobs plan. /sarc)

Standing in front of Cindarella Castle at Walt Disney World this afternoon, President Obama will call for a national strategy to make the United States the world’s No. 1 travel and tourism destination.

It may be a small world, but tourism is big bucks. International tourists spent an estimated $140 billion in the U.S. last year. (Full disclosure: Disney is the parent company of ABC News.)

Whether they come here to Disney World to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse — or elsewhere — tourists from emerging economies such as China, India and Brazil are their own mini stimulus packages — dropping up to $6,000 per tourist.

But for the past decade they’ve been increasingly spending that money elsewhere, as the U.S. share of global tourism plummeted from 17 percent to 11 percent. This is largely because of post-9/11 security proecedures that have made getting a visa an ardous ordeal. One Brazilian tourist we met at Disney World told us it took her three months to get an appointment to apply for her tourist visa.

LMAO @ shutting down main street... they really should think these things thru.  On the other hand if he is there to discuss his jobs plan, he must really have one.

ROMNEY: "Three years into office, he doesn't have a jobs plan."

FACT CHECK: Like them or not, Obama has proposed several plans intended to spur the economy and create jobs. The most well-known was his stimulus plan, introduced in February 2009, which included about $800 billion in tax cuts and spending.

Obama to Disney World to talk up tourism today, but tourists are banned

Hey, Mr. President! You've just destroyed the Keystone XL pipeline project and thousands of new union jobs. What are you gonna do now?

"I'm going to Disney World."

No, it's not another Obama vacation. He's flying Air Force One down to Orlando this morning on business.

His people say the Democrat has some new ideas on how to increase tourism to Florida and probably the entire 57 states. Naturally, this requires another Obama speech.

And what better place for a campaigning president to go lecture needlessly on improving tourism than the iconic institution that figured it all out decades ago, Walt Disney Resorts?

But here's the problem with Obama going to Disney's Main Street: They have to halt all tourism there for him to be seen encouraging more tourism, close the whole place down to tourists for much of the day while he's there and before. Even Disney employees are being barred.

So, Main Street won't look anything like the photo above. And the thousands of existing tourists who expected to spend a valuable vacation day strolling the old-fashioned shops for fudge and Mickey ears, riding the steam-powered cars and horse-drawn streetcars and getting a photo with the real Snow White today are just plum out of luck, like Grumpy.
