A student at private Christian college has died after she collapsed in class on her 21st birthday.
Ariane Noelle Patterson was in a religion class at Gardner-Webb University, in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, when she collapsed Tuesday afternoon - despite appearing to be perfectly healthy.
Just hours earlier, she had written on Twitter how grateful she was to celebrate her birthday and live another day, writing: ‘Thank you God for another year of life.’Tragic death: Ariane Noelle Patterson died hours after tweeting she was glad to celebrate another year of life
University spokesman Noel Manning said Ms Patterson's cause of death is under investigation.
He said the school is investigating whether the student had previous health problems.
Last tweet: Ariane wrote 'Thank you God for a nother (sic) year of life' hours before she collapsed and died in classMs Patterson, described by her friends as a loving and caring person, was a senior majoring in religious studies and went to high school in Rutherford County.
The campus, he said, is in shock. The university is offering grief counselling to any student that wants it.
Mr Manning said that Ms Patterson ‘had this outrageous love for Christ and for people. I really got a sense for how much she was loved.’

She had recently begun a media relations position for the campus ministry group, WSOC-TV reports.
Her friends and mourners took to social media, creating a Facebook memorial page. Those on Twitter said she was an ‘inspiring’ person and had a ‘beautiful soul.’
They included the hashtag: #PrayersforAriane.
