Congress puts anti-piracy bills on ice
« on: January 20, 2012, 09:35:32 AM »
Lawmakers on Friday indefinitely postponed anti-piracy legislation that pits Hollywood against Silicon Valley

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid postponed a showdown vote in his chamber on the Protect Intellectual Property Act, or PIPA for short, that had been scheduled for January 24.

Lamar Smith, the Republican chairman of the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, followed suit, saying his panel would delay action on similar legislation called the Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, until there is wider agreement on the legislation.

I didn't because I didn't think that actually worked anymore.  I'll start up again now even though it might not have been what swayed them this time either.  Having Google, Microsoft, Zuckerberg, wiki and other billionares pointing their finger at congress and saying back off or we'll get involved is probably what made them think twice.

I agree, it's stupid to make this a left vs. right or rep vs. dem issue.  I'm just happy everyone got together and squashed this crap.  The people who supported dem and republican should rightly have some backlash.  I don't care where it falls, as long as it falls.

I don't think this is a republican thing.  A lot of dems supported this crap too.  I see no need to bring partisan politics into this issue.

Your welcome fuckers

Hi there,

Great news -- this morning, Congressional leaders announced that votes on both the Stop Online Piracy Act and the PROTECT IP Act have been postponed!

Make no mistake -- you made this happen.

This week, more than 13 million people spoke out against these disastrous pieces of legislation, and there is no doubt in anyone's mind that it's your protest and your action that made it happen.

To see some of the awesome numbers from Mozillians this week, check out this blog post, and you can see some internet-wide stats here.

There will be more that we need to do in the future on this -- this fight is not over -- but, for now: Thank You.

Ben

P.S. -- We couldn't do this without financial support from people like you. Can you chip in $5 or more so we're prepared for whatever comes next?
