No to Keystone enriches Buffett
January 21, 2012 by Don Surber

In his reckless and artless presidential debate on CNN on Thursday, John King did not mention the disastrous decision to delay indefinitely construction of the Keystone pipeline. There are two explanations for this lapse: CNN would not let him for corporate reasons or more likely, John King is incompetent.

The Keystone pipeline would create thousands of union jobs and reduce U.S. dependency on Saudi oil, Venezuelan oil, and Nigerian oil.

But the man who pays the piper calls the tune, and Warren Buffett is paying the piper. He will rake in millions, if not billions, by eliminating a potential rival for his oil customers in North Dakota.

A post on November 18, 2011, explained it all:

Crony capitalism is alive and well and occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The latest billionaire donor to cash in on his connections to President Obama is Warren Buffett, who now joins billionaire George “Solyndra” Kaiser and George “Petrobras” Soros in cashing in on Obama’s pay-to-play energy policy. Warren Buffett is about to make a pile of money off the Bakken Oil Shale in North Dakota the old-fashioned way with a monopoly worthy of John D. Rockefeller.

Here is how it works, President Obama put the brakes on the Keystone Pipeline, which would have delivered oil from Canada. That delay means Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad will be shipping a lot of oil (10 times as much as it does today) not from Canada but from North Dakota — American oil for American cars and plastics — and Berkshire Hathaway owns 22% of said railroad and will scarf up the remainder of the company.

The spin in Washington is that President Obama is walking a thin line between his labor union bosses and environmentalists. Hogwash. Whatever he decides, unions and tree-huggers will accept. What’s their alternative? Mitt Romney?

This decision was made through the State Department, not the EPA or the Department of Energy and for good reason. President Obama just pissed off Canada. But if you run it through the EPA, you raise environmental questions that may keep you from green-lighting the project later.

No reporter in Washington seemed to find that odd.

From the New York Times on November 10, 2011:

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration, under sharp pressure from officials in Nebraska and restive environmental activists, announced Thursday that it would review the route of the disputed Keystone XL oil pipeline, effectively delaying any decision about its fate until after the 2012 election.

The State Department said in a statement that it was ordering a review of alternate routes to avoid the environmentally sensitive Sand Hills region of Nebraska, which would have been put at risk by a rupture of the 1,700-mile pipeline carrying a heavy form of crude extracted from oil sands formations in Alberta to refineries in Oklahoma and the Gulf Coast.

The move is the latest in a series of administration decisions pushing back thorny environmental matters beyond next November’s presidential election to try to avoid the heat from opposing interests — business lobbies or environmental and health advocates — and to find a political middle ground. President Obama delayed a review of the nation’s smog standard until 2013, pushed back offshore oil lease sales in the Arctic until at least 2015 and blocked new regulations for coal ash from power plants.

The proposed project by a Canadian pipeline company, TransCanada, similarly put the president in a political vise, squeezed between the demand for a secure source of oil and the thousands of jobs the project will bring, and the loud agitation of environmental advocates who threatened to withhold electoral support next year if he approved it.

Mr. Obama said in an interview with an Omaha television station last week that he would make the ultimate decision about the pipeline, but sought to portray Thursday’s announcement as solely a State Department matter and not the result of political calculation.

“I support the State Department’s announcement today regarding the need to seek additional information about the Keystone XL pipeline proposal,” the president said in a statement. “Because this permit decision could affect the health and safety of the American people as well as the environment, and because a number of concerns have been raised through a public process, we should take the time to ensure that all questions are properly addressed and all the potential impacts are properly understood.”

So President Obama just happened to be in Omaha, Nebraska — the hometown of Warren Buffett — when this went down.

Investor’s Business Daily is on this case, editorializing:

So far the environmentalists who worried about the Ogallala aquifer being polluted by pipeline leaks have said nothing about the increased risk of derailed railcars filled with crude — or the pollution the trains will spew as they chuff down the tracks.

But then the Occupy Wall Street crowd has nothing to say about billionaires, members of the 1%, benefiting from Obama’s energy policies, which have killed tens of thousands of jobs for the remaining 99%.

The Bakken oil boom speaks volumes about the potential economic benefit of ending restrictions on domestic and offshore development.

That, coupled with the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, would create a North American economic boom that would make OPEC literally pound sand.

It is the American people who should benefit from our government’s energy policies, not just billionaires like George Soros and Warren Buffett.

In the 19th century, many a nobody vaulted to the presidency as it benefited special interests. I see the 21st century may not be much different.

Sarah Palin is calling for reform:

No more sweetheart land deals with campaign contributors. No gifts of IPO shares. No trading of stocks related to committee assignments. No earmarks where the congressman receives a direct benefit. No accepting campaign contributions while Congress is in session. No lobbyists as family members, and no transitioning into a lobbying career after leaving office. No more revolving door, ever.

This call for real reform must transcend political parties. The grass-roots movements of the right and the left should embrace this. The tea party’s mission has always been opposition to waste and crony capitalism, and the Occupy protesters must realize that Washington politicians have been “Occupying Wall Street” long before anyone pitched a tent in Zuccotti Park.

Sarah Palin does not get it. Occupy was a diversion set up by the very crony capitalists who Occupy the Oval Office.

BLACK-GOLD BLUES: Buffett's railroad winner from Keystone denial
WND (Bloomberg) ^ | 1/24/2012 | Staff

'Whatever people bring to us, we're ready to haul'

(BLOOMBERG) — Warren Buffett’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC is among U.S. and Canadian railroads that stand to benefit from the Obama administration’s decision to reject TransCanada Corp. (TRP)’s Keystone XL oil pipeline permit.

With modest expansion, railroads can handle all new oil produced in western Canada through 2030, according to an analysis of the Keystone proposal by the U.S. State Department.

“Whatever people bring to us, we’re ready to haul,” Krista York-Wooley, a spokeswoman for Burlington Northern, a unit of Buffett’s Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK/A), said in an interview. If Keystone XL “doesn’t happen, we’re here to haul.”

DID PRESIDENT OBAMA BLOCK THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE AS A PAYBACK TO HIS BIG CAMPAIGN DONOR?

DID PRESIDENT OBAMA BLOCK THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE AS A PAYBACK TO HIS BIG CAMPAIGN DONOR?
02-01-2012 12:46 pm - Alan Keyes
Did you know that the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line, owned by Obama's deep pocketed and extremely generous buddy Warren Buffett, stood to gain the most from cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Barack Obama recently sacrificed at least 85,000 high paying jobs when he effectively killed the Keystone XL pipeline, but in doing so Obama is also apparently paying back yet another of his big donors.

The cancellation of the Keystone pipeline project means that Warren Buffet's Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad will be the main transporter of Canadian oil to the U.S. Up to 700,000 barrels of oil per day will be shipped to the U.S. Transportation by rail will cost at least $3 more per barrel than the pipeline.

Think about that a minute. 700,000 x 3 = $2.1 million per day.

Buffet, who recently hosted an Obama fundraiser with entrance prices ranging from $20,000 – $70,000 per couple, has been advocating for higher tax rates, saying:"My friends and I have been coddled long enough by a billionaire-friendly Congress. It's time for our government to get serious about shared sacrifice."

"Sacrifice" is apparently much easier to bear when it comes with the promise of a thousand-fold payback. Warren Buffett is a shrewd investor indeed.

Congress is now considering legislation, the North American Energy Access Act, that will override Obama's donor payback fraud, shift authority for the permitting process from Obama and Hillary Clinton's State Department to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and restore Congressional oversight of the Keystone XL pipeline project. Let's give Congress the encouragement they need to save our economy!

IT IS TIME TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE JOB-KILLING OBAMA! The current U.S. jobs crisis is historic, yet Obama is sending 85,000 real jobs and billions of dollars of oil to China, by canceling the Keystone XL pipeline.

Obama talks jobs, jobs, jobs in his State of the Union, but he ducks responsibility for canceling tens of thousands of high paying Keystone pipeline jobs. He didn't bother to mention it, but he's seeing to it that REAL jobs are being shipped to China – unless YOU stiffen spines in Congress to STOP him.

Republican lawmakers are trying to strip President Barack Obama of direct executive branch authority for approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, in a last ditch effort to bring the project and Canadian oil to the U.S.A. House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing last week on proposed legislation authored by Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.) saw agreement among GOP members that Obama is making needless excuses to delay the project past the presidential election to appease his radical environmentalist supporters.

Terry's bill, the North American Energy Access Act, would shift authority for the permitting process from Obama and Hillary Clinton's State Department to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Clinton was invited to testify at the hearing, but declined to attend.

Out on the endless campaign trail, which he continued uninterrupted for his State of the Union address, Barack Obama keeps making a big noise about his "jobs" plan, a pig-in-a-poke proposal full of crony pay back yet few if any actual jobs.

Obama promises green energy jobs for some fantasyland future, and "cooks the books" on his current unemployment rate, claiming joblessness is 8.5% – when adding the true rate of under-employed and discouraged workers puts it at more like 23.5% !!

Stubbornly, Obama REFUSES to do the one thing that could instantly revive the economies of multiple states and make the cost of gas, plastics and petroleum-based products cheaper for all Americans – authorize the Keystone pipeline.

All Barack Obama needs to do is APPROVE THE KEYSTONE OIL PROJECT.

AMERICA IS WAITING

CANADA IS WAITING

AND YES, EVEN THE CHINESE ARE WAITING

FOR AMERICA TO ACT!

Because if we do not prevent Obama from pandering to extreme environmentalists, the Canadian government will abandon the pipeline project and sell their oil to the Chinese instead of to America!

The Keystone XL pipeline project offers America

85,000 jobs
$71 billion in wages
Cheaper gas and
Reduces our dependence on terror oil

But Barack Obama wants to give that oil and its benefits to the Chinese.

Multiple studies show that the Keystone XL pipeline project will not simply reduce our dependence on oil from Middle East Arab terror states. It will immediately create 85,000 good paying labor jobs, from Wyoming to Louisiana, producing $71 billion in total wages, and will boost the American economy by $149 billion. Best of all, the project is privately funded. That's right – no big government taxpayer funded boondoggles here, the Keystone Pipeline project is entirely privately funded. Is that what Obama hates most about it?

The Keystone XL pipeline is designed to increase the supply and availability of Canadian oil in America. Construction of the expanded pipeline alone will create an estimated 20,000 construction jobs, 65,000 affiliated jobs, and pour hundreds of millions of dollars into local economies.

As an added bonus, the pipeline will also reduce the cost of oil and gas in America, because it comes from a stable and friendly neighbor as opposed to radical and unstable Middle Eastern governments bent on destroying the West by breaking the wealth backbone of America.

But under pressure from energy industry cronies, and extreme leftwing constituency and radical environmental groups, Obama reversed his own Administration's approval of the project, and has stalled it until after the 2012 general election.

Barack Obama can give cute, duplicitous speeches about job bills all he wants. But the truth is, NONE of his schemes have resulted in job growth. Rather, the Obama Administration has slaughtered the economy and the pocketbooks of the American worker.

It's time we stood up and said enough is enough!

HOPE AND FUCKING CHANGE guy!!!
Well, things are changing, just not for the better.
He's keeping his promise, too bad its just exactly the opposite of what people wanted. Lol.
Maybe next time people should pay attention to a candidates history to determine what kind of change he's after.
If they had payed attention, they would have figured out he is a left wing radical and his idea of change involves turning this country into a government owned and run socialistic "utopia".

Oh well, people too stupid to figure out what "change" meant deserve him. And im sure they wont change, when people invest themselves that emotionally in someone it becomes a thing of "faith" more than reality, faith that he really is what they want him to be, faith that he's going to suddenly start doing the things they imagined him doing all the time, and not the things he promised and told us he'd do.
