Romney: 'I'm not concerned about the very poor'
« on: February 01, 2012, 08:24:54 AM »
Mitt has been so surrounded by 'yes men' his entire life that he lacks the ability to think "this is one of those things I don't say out loud".

You can argue, "but what he MEANT was..."  but the point is that he wants to be President, he has to realize every word (paritcularly like this when HE brings it up) is a headline.  You don't use phrases like this.  You just don't.

Romney: 'I'm not concerned about the very poor'

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he's "not concerned about the very poor" because they have an "ample safety net" and he's focused instead on relieving the suffering of middle-class people hit hard by the bad economy.
 The Associated Press
WASHINGTON--

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he's "not concerned about the very poor" because they have an "ample safety net" and he's focused instead on relieving the suffering of middle-class people hit hard by the bad economy.

In comments likely to become fodder for his critics, Romney emphasized, "You can focus on the very poor, that's not my focus."

He brought up the subject of the poor in a CNN interview marking his big win in Florida's GOP primary Tuesday night, a major step toward becoming the party's challenger to President Barack Obama in the fall. A multi-millionaire former venture capitalist, Romney has been criticized by Democrats and his Republican rivals alike for earlier remarks seen as insensitive, such as saying "I like being able to fire people" and declaring that he knew what it was like to worry about being "pink-slipped" out of a job.

He is right TBH.

The poorest of the poor are NEVER going to vote for him or support his programs in the first place, and the collapsing middle class is sick of paying for welfare and medicade for the moochers.

I dont have a problem with what he said.  Comes off as cold, but it is accurate.

he's right, he meant the poor have a net, etc...

my point is that when you say things like this, you lose votes, no matter your intention.  There will be poor people who voted obama in 2008 but have no job - and they'll start to think about voting rrepub - and they'll see these words... and it won't help romney.

Exactly....Obama will take his comments and use them for sound bites in attack ads.  Why does Romney say stupid shit like this for....its like he's trying to lose the election on purpose.

Not at all.   Those poorest people are Obama voters anyway.  Myth needs the overtaxed, over regulated, pissed off middle who does not want be in the dumps as a result of obamanomics.

He was talking from a policy perspective but the media is on Obama's nuts so they are all over it.  Made for a good headline, shocking.  Listen to what he said.  They leave out he also said he didn't care about ultra rich people either.  He choose the word poorly but its obvious what he was talking about (he said the 90-95% of people in the middle).  F-cking media.

Thanks man!  I pop in and read threads from time to time.  Been busy working.

Mitt is probably the only republican in the race that has a decent chance at beating Obama so I'll support him.
I love how the media is arguing over tax rates but they are only talking federal taxes.  Add up all the taxes we owe all levels of government and see what the real total tax rate is.  Unless you have a lot of investments that are doing well, people that work hard & collect employment checks get screwed.

Jon Corzine, Jeffrey immelt, Oprah, Larry Summers, Jacob Liew, George Kaiser, Soros, Buffett, all disagree with you.
