If your employer called you over the phone and said you were fired, not laid off, effective immediately, totally caught off guard

And you have searched for another job for close to several months and your personal savings was drying up

Yet at this time the burger joint down the street always had an open position for you to work , but the only thing was that you would always see people you knew there from school, work, family etc. They would be paying you minimum wage and crappy hours (low hours, 12-3 and 5-8 lets just say

How many of you would work there? And how many of you would not and hold out for longer, even though no employment which was as respected or high paying as your previous job can be seen in any immediate  future?

Im curious bc there is some serious "flipping burger if u need to" mentality here

People should do what they have to do.  There is no shame in flipping burgers to support yourself if that is what it takes.  I could probably go for 2-3 years without work before I had to start thinking in those terms, but if I were in that position and it came to that, I’d flip the burger.

True story...

8th grade geography, our teacher's name was Mr. Boley.  Great old guy.  We had this one know it all chick named Rhonda who looked down on everybody.  Even tried to argue trivial matters with Mr. Boley.  One day he finally lost it and said, "Rhonda, you DON'T know everything there is to know!!"

Fast forward about 20 years.  I worked late one night and promised the wife I would bring home supper for the family.  I stopped at Burger King of all places, and who was the cashier?  You guessed it, Know It All Rhonda.

My first instinct was to say, "You know you always wanted my 'whopper' and now I want yours...with cheese and ketchup only.  Mr Boley was right about you after all.  That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!!"

But I was compassionate.  I placed my order, and like Baptists in a liquor store, we pretended we didn't recognize each other.

I have no issue with working hard for little money when truly broke.
This would be hard though.......

but the only thing was that you would always see people you knew there from school, work, family etc. They would be paying you minimum wage and crappy hours (low hours, 12-3 and 5-8 lets just say

I try not to worry about what others think, but that would be a tough one for my ego.
It would be a different story if I had a child to feed.....wouldn't give a fuck what anyone thought anymore. I don't have offspring though, so different situation.

With a kid on the way I'd work whatever came my way but I'd be actively working my resume for better positions.

Of course anyone with any hustle at all never has to work a burger joint.

Exactly.

But in this hypothetical situation we have to make the burger or die?  Alrighty then, I'll make the burger.

if ur on uneployment and it pays more than this job offers ,,,stay on uneployment work off the books until u find the job u want or close to what u were making....no burger job is going to pay more than uneployment esp in jersey unless u work 65-70 hrs a wk,,,,
You can't get unemployment if they fired you with a good reason. I beleive that is what the OP meant.

I once made burger patties at home and then realized I forgot to get hamburger buns, so I cooked the burger and put it between a couple slices of bread.  Within 48 hours I had grown a mullet & goatee, was living in a trailer, my car wouldn't start, and my children all had crewcuts and two first names.  Now I eat hamburger helper 4x a week.

That's less redneck than using regular bread for burgers?   :-\

I would do whatever it took to keep income flowing.

I have no shame.

I don't knock anyone who works for a living.  Even if they are the Greeter at Walmart, they have my respect for working for a living.

mmmm sloppy joes

I got a beating over sloppy joes when I was 11.  We were at my grandmother's house one day and she was making sloppy joes.  My dumbass cousin Mark was trying to be funny and said, "They're not called Sloppy Joes...they're called Neat Michaels."  Nobody laughed and I called him a pha gg ot.  That earned me a beating, but it was worth it (because he cried like a bitch).

Look what the crooks at Wall street are doing to the globe and come up with a better plan. If you have a wife and kids, it makes life that much tougher...But if you don't have kids or a wife, take 30 days to come up with the best plan your mind can come up with. Just don't hurt/kill the innocent. And don't use your own computer to find ways to make easy money ;)
