Before i answer i want to say im a huge fan of Nick and do not like Carlos, i dont dislike him either but hes not a fighter i like to watch. I thought Nick would have controlled this fight and got the stoppage but he lacked any kind of persistent offence which would have won him the rounds. Carlos however surprised me with great footwork and some outstanding combos, but evidently he did back off almost the entire fight.

There are no wrong opinions, but personally i think Nick controlled the pace. What he didnt do was actually fight, as incredible as that sounds for a Diaz! Where was the man that tore BJ apart??? He wanted to stand there and exchange but threw no pressure combos, he looked somewhat nervous, he never looked like having Condit in trouble at all and left it far too late to go to the ground. I would have been a little more giving and had Condit win 48 - 47 but thats as generous as i could have been. Very poor showing from Nick and if he wants to retire then hes already carved his name in the sport.

I still dont see either man being a threat to a healthy GSP.

This was the key thing for me. I dislike Diaz and i'm no fan of Condit, but one guy fought an intelligent fight and one guy pissed about.

I'll be perfectly happy if Diaz never fights again. THe always love to comment on how he has fantastic endurance, does triathlons and ironman so maybe he should switch to that full time.

If Diaz didn't stalk him and chase him most of the fight, nothing would of happened. What more was Diaz supposed to do with a guy who won't engage? Condit landed 160 strikes.. so what this isn't a fucking karate match, did Diaz even look fazed by any of this? And I dont recall seeing Diaz in any trouble whatsoever, if anything he had Carlos in more trouble early in the fight. Great to see Greg Jackson manipulate the judging criteria to his fighters' advantages though  ;D

who knows what GSP vs Condit will bring as far as excitement goes  ::)

I had Condit winning first 4 rounds.  Diaz's face was way more jacked up post fight.
What advice do you give Diaz to avoid these types of situations BDB?

I agree , I think it was close in the first 4 but Condit was attempting and landing more combos . did a good job of avoiding the take downs when Diaz had his leg on a couple of occasions , he fought an intelligent fight and edged him out.

Yep, heavily and wisely relied on the current point based judging system to edge out a victory.

Carlos is a cowardly fighter when fighting tougher opposition, a real man would be ashamed to fight like that, because the watchers will never know who could have won the fight because there is only one man willing to fight.  If that fight had to go to the death, I think we all now who would have won

GSP VS  Condit = Snoozefest

I had Diaz winning all 5 rounds, you cant give the fight to the guy who looked like all he wanted to do was jump out of the octagon, which I am sure if it was in the rules Carlos would have done it.  People forget this is fighting, not who can manipulate the rules enough to win a decision but still lose the fight.  Fans will lose interest if the UFC if it encourages the New Age Coward Style MMA that is so popular these days.

I watched it and although I wanted to see more "action" condit won the fight.

He basically used Nicks aggression, countered here and there and won.

In the end when NIck hand him on the ground I bet Condit corner was shitting their pants though.

...unfortunately I can easily see GSP winning vs Condit UD. If he fought this cautious vs Nick he will be even more cautious vs GSP.

GSP will be fine with the UD imo.

Sure, if there was no cage they would have ended up somewhere in the desert im sure. In Japan Condit would have been yellow carded for this nonsense. And I completely understand Nicks frustration with the direction the sport in the west is going. Condit is a good fighter no doubt, but i'd like to know how good he REALLY is. Like, do they have to make these guys fight in phone booths for christ sakes??

Agreed, Condit is afraid to really test himself, to see how much of a man he really is.  Condit's MMA Career strategy, and so is GSP's is to fight smart fights and minimize permanent injuries and the like, but to gain the deep respect of your fellow man, you must be prepared to die fighting tooth and nail against the very best life throws your way.  At some point, if this style becomes popular we are going to see a drop in the fanbase of UFC.  It could be a good time for a more risk-taking competitor to start a slightly more violent version of the UFC, just like it used to be before all the feminist lesbians and manginas started complaining about it.

Spot on. give the fighters the opportunity to fight this way and win and they will take it. If a guy has a choice of getting his ass kicked by a better striker or winning by points they will take the easy road of course. But that depends on the fighter. Junior Dos Santos goes out there to kill the mother fucker, take his head right off if he can and leave it all in the cage. And hes even fighting guys much bigger and stronger than himself. It just says alot about the fighter, as in what type of man he is.

Really though Carlos is not to blame for this but the current judging system is. If this is being judged like karate and a fight is won by whomever gets the most 'strikes' regardless of how damaging they are, then fuck yeah guys who dont like to engage or fight can make their way into title contention by using this strategy. Carlos won the decision according to the judging criteria absolutely, but I dont believe he won the fight.

Condit won the fight lets be honest! He didnt just run, he ran and countered.Diaz just kept walking forward trying to throw punches!  ::) Hasnt he ever heard of trying something different like a takedown or some kick/punch combo? I wanted Diaz to win, but he surprised me with how bad he looked against a guy who can move and hit.
Anyone saying Condit shouldve stood and fought etc...well look what happens when you do that, you end up like Wanderlei Silva or Chuck Lidell getting KOd  ;)

So basically Condit could beat anyone on the planet with that strike and hike strategy? Even heavyweights.. because nobody would be able to engage him, and he'd just keep racking up the points and running away getting the W lol. Cigano and Overeem watch out.

Diaz could have implemented the bull rush if he really wasn't afraid of Condit's punching power. But he didn't :-\

Greg Jackson is the one to blame for all of this!  Almost all of his fighters (except Jones) are points pussies.  Like someone said earlier, MMA fights should not go to a decision.  It's either a KO, TKO, sub/tap, or throwing in the towel.  Force these fuckers to fight!

lol true. Condit is getting too much hate for this, the hate MUST be directed at the current judging criteria, not the fighters.
