Who's against helping the poor? I'm against people who are perfectly able body who sponge off the system. Ie; people on UE for extended periods of time and then having benefits extended when there is no money.

I started my business last year and I'm getting around to paying taxes right now. It's a fucking crime how much of my money that I earned through my work, my own time and diligence is being STOLEN from me.

I agree that we should pay taxes to have a standing military, public schools, roads...and other institutions but it's highway robbery what the government is taking from businesses.

The amount that I am paying in taxes this year would put me in a very nice lease for about 2 years in an AMG mercedes while smoking Cubans cigars everyday. It's crazy.

A welfare state might contribute to such phenomena but fundamentally it's about culture and the attitudes of the citizens. As soon as a society starts to perceive the less fortunate as "victims" they are fundamentally changing the mindset of an entire class of people. It's a mindset that spreads like cancer and once the lower class is infected with it things start to get way worse. If you're a 'victim', that means you're helpless. If you're helpless, then you're not in control of your own life. If you're not in control of your own life, you won't do anything to make it better.

Socialism works very well in societies that are relatively homogenous--meaning everyone has similar traits and capabilities.
In Scandinavia there are practically no homeless, and everyone enjoys a high standard of living.

In situation where the population is heterogenous socialism doesn't work, because the disparity in intellect/capability means a small percentage will be paying for the less capable, until the system bankrupts and society collapses.

Europeans are enjoying a very high standard of living with their socialism, but as they are inundated with third world immigrants, the system will become over taxed and collapse.
