volume works for everyone. What you should avoid if you don't want to overtrain is going to failure and doing bullshit training like forced reps, negatives, rest-pause...train normal and you will not overtrain.

But on a serious note, in most cases I train pretty strict, keep the tension on the muscle, slow down the negatives and go near/to failure with barbells/dumbbells only. About 4 sets and I have a good pump. Once you reached a pump, no need to continue, esp for a relative small muscle.
This is what works for me, and the job is done in 10-15 minutes
